More than 12 hours ago, the region's most respected poker players gathered inside Casino de Marrakech for Day 1b of World Poker Tour Marrakech, presented by Chilipoker. The field was smaller than expected but chock full of players with a taste for big pots and fast action. The pace worked to the advantages of Johan Williamson and Erik Tamm, who ended the day at the top of the chip counts with 192,500 and 178,900 respectively. Santiago Terrazas, Guillaume de la Gorce, Davidi Kitai, and Roger Hairabedian all also finished above 100,000. None of them, however, approach the giant chips stacks that Day 1a's chip leaders will be bringing to the felt when the fields combine for Day 2 on Monday. With 327,900, Sebastian Homann will unbag the most chips, followed by Nicholas Levi with 287,700.

Bertrand "ElKy" Grospellier rode the short stack all day, but fell short of making Day 2. Ludovic Lacay and David Benyamine took the opposite approach, busting as quickly as possible and returning to the cash game tables. Carlos Mortensen, Arnaud Mattern, Liz Lieu, and Thomas Bichon also hit the rail before the day was done.

The 31 players still standing at the end of the night will join with the 51 Day 1a survivors on Monday at 1:00 pm to play ever closer to the title. Join us then as we bring you the latest from sunny Morocco.
