Day 1a Started
PokerNews is live here at Nottingham for the £3,000 Main Event of the World Poker Tour. We're at Dusk Til Dawn, one of Europe's top poker clubs for this six-day event which will see players from all around the world competing for the latest WPT title. The WPT500 event saw an incredible 2,133 players come for the £1 million guaranteed event, and the Main Event today also has a £1 million guarantee. That means the tournament will need 334 players over the two start days to hit the magic seven-figure mark.
The plan for today will be for the tournament to play either eight or nine 60-minute levels with the tournament going to 90-minute levels on Day 2, 3, and 4 before the final table goes back to 60 minutes per level.
Among those expected to play over the next couple of days include Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi as well as Nottingham's own high-stakes poker hero Sam Trickett. Boxing legend Carl "The Cobra" Froch will also be in the mix, hoping to slither his way to the money while everyone else tries to deliver him the KO.
This is a reentry tournament, and you'll be allowed one reentry each day for a total of four.
Play will be starting at 1 p.m. local time, and you can follow all the hands and news right here from the tournament floor, so please stay tuned!

With the board reading , James Parker fired a bet of 2,500 only for Athir Ali to make it 5,025. With trembling hands, Parker min-reraised to 7,525. Ali tanked for a minute or two before folding.
"It was a very pretty hand," sighed Ali.
With the board reading , Steve Watts fired a bet of 375 before Marvin Rettenmaier made it 1,125 to go. The third player in the hand, Haroon Hussain, then folded to leave the action back with Watts.

With the board reading , James Parker saw his 1,000 bet check-raised to 3,000 by James Thomson. Parker made the call to see the land on the river, and that's where Thomson quickly flung out a bet of 5,150. Parker debated the call briefly and opted to put the chips in.
Thomson showed the for trip sixes to win the pot.

There are four tables left in the £6,000 High Roller event, which looks ridiculously stacked with top players. Among those still involved are Tom Middleton, Dominik Nitsche, Mike Sexton, Max Silver, Sam Trickett, Bryn Kenney, and Adrian Mateos, to name just a few.
