All Hail King Van den Bijgaart

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Joep van den Bijgaart
Joep van den Bijgaart

We almost didn't see Joep van den Bijgaart as he was hiding behind two tall towers of 5,000 chips, the highest denomination in play. With that looked like well over 300,000, we asked Van den Bijgaart what had helped him to reach that stack. Van den Bijgaart told us about three hands.

1) Erik van den Berg opened and Van den Bijgaart made the call. The player on the button and the player in the big blind both called as well and the flop came {K-}{7-}{6-}. Both the big blind and initial raiser Van den Berg checked, and Van den Bijgaart checked as well. The player on the button bet 6,800 and just Van den Bijgaart called. Van den Bijgaart check called another 16,800 on the {K-} turn and 39,000 on the {8-} river. His opponent mucked and Van den Bijgaart won a big pot without having to show his hand.

2) Van den Bijgaart opened with {9-}{9-} and won a small pot against one opponent with the board running out {10-}{8-}{Q-}{8-}{X-} against {7-}{7-}.

3) Van den Bijgaart opened under the gun with {A-}{A-} and his neighbor on his left made the call. The cutoff over called and the three of them saw a flop of {7-}{6-}{4-} rainbow. Both Van den Bijgaart and his neighbor checked, the cutoff bet 9,000. Van den Bijgaart called, his neighbor folded. Both players checked the {7-} on the turn and the {2-} completed the board. Van den Bijgaart bet out 18,000 and he got called. Van den Bijgaart showed his {A-}{A-} and his opponent mucked.

Schaap Doesn't Dare To Call Andersson's Big Shove

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Frederik Andersson
Frederik Andersson

Ad Schaap still had 85,000 in front of him, but the tower of black 5,000 chips was missing, so we asked what had happened.

Schaap told us he opened {A-Hearts}{9-Hearts} and picked up three callers, including Fredrik Andersson in the big blind.

The flop came {A-}{9-}{2-} with two spades, giving Schaap top two. Schaap made a continuation bet of 9,300 and just Andersson called, both other opponents folded.

Schaap mistakenly checked on the {10-Hearts} turn first while it wasn't on him to announce his action yet. Action was still on Andersson who decided to bet 25,000. Schaap called.

The {K-Diamonds} completed the board and Andersson moved all in. Schaap made the lay down after some tanking.

Jorn Walthaus
Jorn Walthaus

Jochum Weenink raised before the flop and Jorn Walthaus called after which a third player got involved from the blinds.

The flop brought out {K-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{8-Spades} and Weenink bet 4,500 after the other player had checked, and Walthaus called. The player in the blinds folded and on the turn, the {A-Clubs}, both players checked.

The river was the {5-Spades} and Weenink bet enough to put Walthaus all in. Walthaus snap-called for 22,900 total and Weenink showed {K-Spades}{K-Clubs} for a set of kings. Walthaus showed {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts} for a set of aces and he doubled up.

Dominik Nitsche
Dominik Nitsche

Dominik Nitsche just walked up the steps to make his way out of the poker room, and he explained to us how he got knocked out.

Joep van den Bijgaart raised before the flop and Senh Ung called after which Nitsche three-bet to 8,000 holding {A-}{Q-}. Van den Bijgaart made it 18,000, Ung folded and Nitsche moved all in for around 36,000 chips.

Van den Bijgaart called holding pocket tens, and his hand held up.

"It's a shame I can't re-enter anymore," Nitsche laughed as he left the premises.

David Boyaciyan
David Boyaciyan

Cor Janssen opened to 3,000 from late position and action folded to big blind David Boyaciyan. While the former MCOP champion contemplated his move, Janssen remarked "Ik pik niet", which translates to "I don't steal."

Boyaciyan didn't believe Janssen and made it 8,400 to go. Janssen almost instantly four-bet to 23,000, and Boyaciyan shoved for a bit more, Janssen called.

David Boyaciyan: {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}
Cor Janssen: {J-Spades}{J-Clubs}

The board ran out {2-Hearts}{K-Hearts}{2-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{4-Spades} and the tournament lost one of its champions. Janssen plays a pretty big stack now, he already won a hand before this one and now plays around 260,000.

Ten Cate Freerolling From Here On

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Jonas ten Cate
Jonas ten Cate

The two Dutch high rollers Jonas ten Cate and Floris van der Ven are seated right next to each other, and the two of them told us a hand together they just played against each other.

Floris van der Ven opened with {A-}{Q-} and Jonas ten Cate made the call with {10-}{10-}. One more player joined in and the three of them saw a flop of {Q-}{Q-}{5-}. After a check from the player in the blinds, Van der Ven made a continuation bet. That bet was just called by Ten Cate, the player in the blinds folded.

A {10-} hit the turn and Van der Ven decided "to do something fancy, and check". Ten Cate "did something fancy as well, and checked behind."

After the two both checked the turn, a {5-} completed the board. Van der Ven made a big bet and Ten Cate called, mucking his lower full house to Van der Ven's effective third nuts.

The two of them smiled about it, discussing that if they played it almost in any other way, the money would've gone in. "I'm freerolling!" Ten Cate said, with his tournament life saved by his creative play.
