On top of the 151 players that made it through after both starting days, a total of 17 players entered the event this morning, many after having already busted once or twice on one or both of the starting days. Erik "popie" van den Berg (we use "popie" as we still have two Erik van den Berg's in the field) was one of them that started out with 30,000 (30 big blinds) this morning.
Most of those 17 players now find their names in the list of busted out players, almost none of them really got anything going today. Except for Erik "popie" van den Berg that is, he's doing really well for himself.
He plays around 230,000 in chips at the moment after busting a 28,000 stack not too long ago. The short stack had and Van den Berg found which didn't get in any trouble.
Danny van Zijp got his chips in the middle with and was up against Farid Yachou's . "Not again!" Van Zijp said with a smile, as this apparently wasn't his first time allin against kings/Yachou.
"Now it has to fall" Van Zijp said, projecting his hope of an eight. It wasn't meant to be, the board ran out and Van Zijp wished the table good luck and made his exit.
"If he just called, I would've won a huge pot" O'Dwyer said.
Pim van Riet raised to 5,200 and Sylvain Loosli called from his immediate left. The other players folded and the flop came down on which Van Riet bet 5,200 and Loosli called.
The turn brought the and this time both players checked. On the river brought the and quickly Van Riet bet 15,100. Loosli gave up and Van Riet raked in this pot.
Jason Wheeler raised to 4,400 and Danny van Zijp called from the small blind after which Steve O'Dwyer three-bet from the big blind to 14,500. Wheeler folded and Van Zijp made the call, after which the flop brought out .
Van Zijp checked to O'Dwyer who bet 13,000 and the Dutchman check-raised to 28,000.
"All in," O'Dwyer announced after that, and Van Zijp tanked for a long time before making the call for an additional 41,600.
Van Zijp:
O'Dwyer:
The board ran out , and O'Dwyer raked this massive pot to boost his stack way up there. Van Zijp was left behind with little chips.
We almost didn't see Joep van den Bijgaart as he was hiding behind two tall towers of 5,000 chips, the highest denomination in play. With that looked like well over 300,000, we asked Van den Bijgaart what had helped him to reach that stack. Van den Bijgaart told us about three hands.
1) Erik van den Berg opened and Van den Bijgaart made the call. The player on the button and the player in the big blind both called as well and the flop came . Both the big blind and initial raiser Van den Berg checked, and Van den Bijgaart checked as well. The player on the button bet 6,800 and just Van den Bijgaart called. Van den Bijgaart check called another 16,800 on the turn and 39,000 on the river. His opponent mucked and Van den Bijgaart won a big pot without having to show his hand.
2) Van den Bijgaart opened with and won a small pot against one opponent with the board running out against .
3) Van den Bijgaart opened under the gun with and his neighbor on his left made the call. The cutoff over called and the three of them saw a flop of rainbow. Both Van den Bijgaart and his neighbor checked, the cutoff bet 9,000. Van den Bijgaart called, his neighbor folded. Both players checked the on the turn and the completed the board. Van den Bijgaart bet out 18,000 and he got called. Van den Bijgaart showed his and his opponent mucked.
