Van Veen Versus Yachou

Level 5 : 150/300, 50 ante

On a board of {6-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} we witnessed last years champion Farid Yachou check from the big blind. From middle position, Gerard van Veen made a bet of 2,300 and Yachou called.

The {7-Hearts} hit the river and Yachou checked. Van Veen thought about his next move for a bit, when Yachou said "Chef, you don't have to bluff. That's really not necessary."

Van Veen bet 6,525 and Yachou instantly called. Van Veen showed {J-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} and Yachou mucked.

"If you would have bet more, I would have called as well." said Yachou.

"Yeah, but there was no way of knowing that for me" remarked Van Veen while stacking his chips.

Rheem Goes Home

Level 5 : 150/300, 50 ante
Chino Rheem
Chino Rheem

"What hand did he have?" asked Mark Roovers as Chino Rheem was making his departure.

"Nine three" answered Alberto Stegeman.

"What?" exclaimed Roovers, who double checked with the dealer.

The table was still a bit in disbelief about what had just happened. Here's the details of the hand.

From first position Mark Roovers opened for 700 and from the hijack Chino Rheem three-bet to 1,900. On the button Patrick Lin cold called and Roovers called as well.

The flop came {K-Clubs}{5-Spades}{6-Diamonds} and Roovers checked. Rheem bet 2,400 and Lin called, Roovers folded.

The {K-Hearts} fell on the turn and Rheem bet 6,500. Lin called again, while still enjoying a massage.

The {2-Clubs} completed the board and Rheem shoved for about 30,000. Lin simply tossed in a single 5,000-chip to call.

Rheem got up from the table and motioned he was beat and wanted to muck. Lin showed his {6-Clubs}{6-Spades} and the dealer turned over Rheem's {9-Spades}{3-Hearts} while the 3-time WPT champion Rheem made his way to the exit.

While the players jaws were still on the ground, the dealer got underway dealing a new hand and Lin started stacking his 90,000 stack.

Farid Yachou Eliminated

Level 5 : 150/300, 50 ante
Farid Yachou
Farid Yachou

Last years champion Farid Yachou has been eliminated. We caught him on the rail, and he was kind enough to tell us the details of his bust out hand.

One player limped in and Yachou raised to 1,050. Rumen Nanev made the call and another player squeezed to 4,200. The first limper folded and action was back on Yachou. The Dutchman shoved all in for about 19,000 and his neighbor Nanev repushed for 31,000. The third player tanked for a bit before folding.

Nanev had the better hand with {Q-}{Q-} as Yachou tabled {3-}{3-}. The board blanked out for Yachou and the pot went to Nanev.

Yachou has two cashes on his resume, and both are wins. He still has a shot to go 3 for 3 in WPT tournaments, as he's determined to reenter tomorrow on Day 1b.

Stegeman Surges

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

As we arrived over on Alberto Stegeman's table, we saw the small blind check on a board of {3-Clubs}{3-Spades}{10-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{10-Spades}. Under the gun player Stegeman bet 4,200 and his opponent check raised to 10,300. Stegeman tanked for a bit before he just called. The small blind showed {5-Clubs}{6-Clubs} while Stegeman had {A-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} for the rivered full house.

Right the next hand, the cutoff limped and the player who had just unsuccessfully check raised bluffed the river, now made it 1,300 from the button. Stegeman, now acting out of the big blind, called and the limper called as well. The flop came {Q-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} and Stegeman and the cutoff both checked. The button bet 1,700. Stegeman and the cutoff both called. The three of them continued to check down the {2-Clubs} turn and {5-Hearts} river and Stegeman took it down showing {A-Clubs}{J-Clubs} for the nut flush.

Two Birds One Stone

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

Anthony Zinno has been eliminated from the tournament at the hand of Piet Bakker. Bakker was all smiles when we approached the table, and told us he had just knocked out two players in one hand.

Bakker, still with a big smile, told us he flopped an up and down with {10-}{8-} in a multiway pot on {9-}{7-}{5-}. The {6-} on the turn really set things off and when the dust had settled, Bakker was allin agains two players who both had just an {8-}. Zinno was one of them and was drawing to a chop. The river was a blank and Bakker sent two players packing, while stacking to a 160,000 stack himself.

Ruys Busts His Neighbor

Level 7 : 250/500, 75 ante

Hijack Joris Ruys raised to 1,100 and his neighbor in the cutoff made the call. Pieter de Korver squeezed to 4,500 from the small blind and both Ruys and his neighbor called.

The flop came {2-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{6-Hearts} and De Korver bet 6,400 with about 30,000 behind. Ruys, who had both his neighbor and De Korver covered, shoved all in. The cutoff called all in for about 25,000 and the decision was on De Korver. The EPT champion tanked for some bit, before reluctantly folding his cards.

Joris Ruys: {A-Clubs}{10-Clubs}
Cutoff: {6-Clubs}{5-Clubs}

The {2-Spades} on the turn was a blank and the cutoff, who had gotten up by this time, said several words we didn't quite understand, probably asking the dealer in his own language for a blank.

The dealer didn't understand him either, so much was clear as the {Q-Clubs} hit the river and the cutoff was eliminated.

"Yes! He got there!" De Korver said, happy he had made a fold that ended up being good for him.

"I folded the best hand on the flop" added De Korver as the cutoff was already on his way to the exit.
