Off to A Quiet Start

Today all the players were in their seats, ready and waiting to begin. In contrast to the beginning of the previous days events, the room is unusually calm. Players are smiling and joking around the room. Some look a bit droopy eyed, probably from staying up too late.

Gavin Griffin

Gavin has just taken a seat right in front of our reporting desk. I would like to tell you all about his game but I am in the cash game area; Gavin is not playing this tournament.

Ante up for Africa

At the start of proceedings today, Don Cheadle and Annie Duke were on hand to promote their "Ante up for Africa" tournament to benefit Darfur relief. The tournament is scheduled for July 5th and is $5000 to enter.

Annie announced that it was a real tournament, with the prizepool paid out, however they ask that 50% of players' winnings be donated to the cause in Africa.

Bill Gazes Crippled By Quads - Then Out

Bill Gazes limps in mid-position. The next player makes it 200 and both the cut-off and Gazes call. They all check the flop of {J-Clubs}{J-Spades}{5-Diamonds}. The {7-Hearts} turn brings a flurry of activity. Gazes checks, the next player makes it 350 and the cut-off calls. Gazes then raises it to 1350. Both players call. Gazes pushes it all in on a {8-Diamonds} river - and both players call.

Gazes shows {7-Clubs}{7-Spades} for the turned boat. The next player mucks. But the cut-off shows {J-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} for flopped quads.

Bill Gazes was left with 400 chips but lost them shortly after and is out.
