J.C. Tran Doubles Up

Four players limped in and J.C. Tran moved all in for his last 1,300 from the button. The UTG player called and the remaining limpers folded. Tran tabled Q-J, dominated by his opponent's A-J. The flop was T-9-4, giving Tran a straight draw. He announced to the table, "I'm making the nuts." The turn was a 3 but sure enough, the river was an 8... indeed making him the nuts.

Maybe J.C. Tran is a warlock too.

Beckham gets lucky!

On a flop of {A-Clubs}{5-Spades}{6-Spades}the UTG player bets 600 with {A-Spades}{Q-Spades} and is raised to 1800 by Shane Beckham with {7-Spades}{8-Spades}

UTG moves all in for another 2000 and Beckham says "let's gamble" and calls.

The turn card is the {2-Clubs}, but the river brings a miracle {9-Spades} to give Beckham a straight flush.

Floor, Floor, Floor - - New Players Learning the Ropes

Before the break, floor people had their hands full. You could hear "Floor" being called from every direction. Let's see now, if he shows him his cards, does he have to show all?

At another table, one player made a string bet, players not even involved in the pot were putting in their two cents. Three floor people were trying to sort it. To make a long story short, after all the fuss, his opponent pushed all-in with {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}, the "string-bet guy" called with pocket queens. The board was no help, and the queens took the pot. Better luck next year.

King Kong Goes All In

Michael "King Kong" Williams is a very quiet player that is known for exactly that. He's got a hood over his head, shades and music. He is big, and was dominating a big tournament in the past when his opponent nicknamed him "King Kong".
In this event, King Kong raises preflop to 200 and got one caller. The flop is {4-Spades}{3-Clubs}{J-Clubs} and the opponent bets 525. King Kong says "All In" and the opponent mucks. King Kong is up to 14,000.

Scott Kowalske Plays Through the Pain

42-year old Scott Kowalske was recently given only four months to live, and his greatest wish was to play in the World Series of Poker.

Suffering from an extraordinarily rare case of chronic wasting disease, Kowalske is in constant, unbearable pain, eased only by high doses of medications used on late-stage cancer patients. Once a scratch golfer and the owner of a construction company, the bone in Kowalske's fingers has been eaten away by the disease, necessitating the amputation of an inch off each digit, and his legs are numb, requiring the use of crutches for him to get around. Doctors have been confounded with his condition and the only hope for Kowalkse's survival could be an experimental stem-cell transplant, a $28,000 procedure that is not covered by his insurance. Both his and his parents' financial resources have been completely exhausted.

Poker is the one thing that has kept Kowalske going over the last several months. He loves the game and a deep finish here today might literally save his life.
