Doyle's Influence Spreads Far and Wide

Though he was not one of our 296 entrants in today's tournament, Doyle Brunson's presence is still being felt out in the Player's Pavilion.

On a board showing Q-J-2, the action was checked around to Annie Duke, who took a stab at the pot; she was called by a single opponent.

The turn brought a King and both players checked, opting to see the river. The last card off the deck was a 10, and again both Duke and her opponent knuckled the felt. Duke's opponent said, "two pair," before turning over 10-2 offsuit, the hand made famous by Doyle Brunson who won two World Championships with it.

Duke wasn't amused and subtly shook her head as she tossed her cards in the muck.

Daredevil Devonshire

Word has it that Bryan Devonshire just made a $100 prop bet that he can drive a wheelchair across the room wearing goggles and a helmet, while doing a continuous wheelie without stopping.

A guy who calls himself "Crazy Mike" has taken him up on the bet, and said, "it's more of a challenge than flipping a coin." The two have been flipping coins for $100 a pop all night long.

Bill Chen was eliminated from the tournament holding {A-Spades}{6-Hearts} against an opponent's {A-Clubs}{5-Hearts}. Shortstacked, Bill put the last of his money into the pot with the board showing {4-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{10-Spades}.

The turn and river brought no help to either player and Chen's Ace-high lost to his opponent's pair of 5's.

Greg Mueller Owns Day 1 at the WSOP

Greg "FBT" Mueller just took down a huge pot against Annie Duke, hitting a set of 9's on the flop against her pocket Jacks. The hand took Mueller past the 35K mark, making him the chip leader for the moment.

We noticed that Greg's name has been at the top of the leaderboard quite a number of times throughout this year's WSOP going into Day 2, so we asked Greg for a number. He told us this would be his 4th tournament as the Day 1 chip leader going into Day 2 -- impressive, considering the big fields we've seen this year.

Greg is fast approaching 40,000 chips and there's a very good possibility he'll be on top at 3:00 a.m., when we close up shop for the evening.
