We mentioned earlier that a lot of the orphaned stacks of chips belong to top pros who are making a late entrance. But not all of them.
At Scott Lazar and Davood Mehrmand's table, there is a stack being blinded away on Lazar's right. The name on the entry list shows the player as "Bo D. Ho." Mr. Ho, your stack is being blinded off, so you might want to come down to the Rio as quickly as possible.
Melissa Hayden and Chris Ferguson were heads-up on the flop. Both players checked and the turn brought the . Hayden led out for 2,200 and Ferguson made the call. The river was the and Hayden checked, then called a 2,500 bet from Ferguson. Hayden had while Ferguson had . The pot was chopped as they both had the wheel, and as the pot was being chopped up Melissa asked, "Can you give me the orange chips? He's got plenty of them over there."
On a flop of , Darren Locke bet the pot. One player raised all in to 17.5K. A second player called. Locke looked down at his A-A and tossed them into the muck. Player A showed . Player B flipped over . Locke ended up making the correct fold. Not too many players can get away with folding Aces, even at the main event of the WSOP. The player with a set of 8's won the pot.
After a flop of , Scott Lazar moves all in with for a pair of queens, Davood Mehrmand folds, and one player calls with for a pair sevens.
Davood Mehrmand claims he folded A-Q (which would have him in the lead), but he had a bad feeling because Lazar looked so strong when he pushed.
The turn card is the , and the river card is the , giving Lazar the pot with two pair. (And if Mehrmand were still in the hand, he would have received a bad beat.)
Burt Boutin flopped a set of 10s on a board of . He fired out 1K at the pot and everyone folded. He shook his head as the dealer pushed him the pot. No one at his table wants to tangle with the 2007 WSOP bracelet winner. Boutin took down Event #7 $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha with rebuys.
Anyone being moved onto table 66 is in for a rough Day 1.
Seated in the one-seat is the 2000 World Series of Poker Champion Chris "Jesus" Ferguson, to his left in the five-seat is Ishak Noyan, Melissa Hayden is to his left, and the 2002 World Series of Poker Champion Robert Varkonyi is in the ten-seat.
The last remaining table from the poker tent has just been moved into the Amazon Room.
It was a big change for the last table, who actually seemed to be comfortable out there by themselves in a rather peaceful atmosphere. There was a satellite going on the other side of the tent, but their area was relaxed and peaceful. Now that they're in the Amazon Room, there is much more background noise, including the cricket-like chatter of 1,500 people shuffling their chips.
On a board of , Amnon Flippi checked. Kenna James bet 6K, and Filippi called. The river was the . Filippi fired out 6,500. James went into the tank before he folded Q-Q face up. Filippi didn't show his hand as he dragged the pot.
