Daniel Alaei Makes a Big Call

Daniel Alaei
Daniel Alaei
We caught up to this hand on the turn. With the board reading {K-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}, Daniel Alaei bet 37,000. His lone opponent, Hyon Kim, raised 50,000 more. Alaei pondered briefly before calling. The river brought the {Q-Clubs}. Alaei checked, and Kim bet 130,000. Alaei made the call and Kim said, "I have a nine." Alaei silently rolled over his {K-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} and Kim mucked. After the hand, Kim sits with 555,000 in chips, while Alaei is up to 575,000.

Jay Franklin Benjamin Eliminated

Hand #1
Board: {A-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}

Bob Slezak raises to 230,000 under the gun and Jay Franklin Benjamin reraises all in for 251,000 more. Slezak calls with {Q-Spades}{Q-Hearts}| and Benjamin has {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}. The board does not bring help and Benjamin is down to 21,000.

Hand #2
Board: {A-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}{K-Spades}

Then, shortly after, Benjamin is all in for 15,000 and Brandon Adams reraises to 45,000. Bob Lauria calls on the side. The side pot is checked down past the turn. Lauria checks the river, and Adams bets 45,000. Lauria folds. Adams has {Q-Hearts}{10-Clubs} to the {A-Spades}{10-Spades} of Benjamin, and Broadway busts Benjamin. Adams has 1,200,000.

Wolbert Bartlema Eliminated by Humberto Brenes

Wolbert Bautlema Eliminated
Wolbert Bautlema Eliminated
Humberto Brenes made an opening raise from under the gun. Wolbert Bartlema, also in early position, reraised all in for about 400,000 total. Action folded back around to Brenes, who had Bartlema well covered, and he called. The players showed...

Brenes: {J-Diamonds}{J-Spades}
Bartlema: {A-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}

Brenes stood triumphantly, addressed the crowd and loudly asked, "Who have the best hand?" An excited crowd packed into the ESPN feature table area yelled in unison: "HUMBERTO!"

Wolbert Bartlema got no help from the community cards and was sent home. Brenes is now slightly over 1,000,000 in chips.

Hansen and Watkinson Butt Heads

Lee Watkinson
Lee Watkinson
Gus Hansen and Lee Watkinson just went at it for the first time since Gus was moved from the feature table to Lee's table, just under an hour ago.

Preflop, Gus made it 52,000 to go from the cutoff and Lee made the call from the big blind.

The flop came {4-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{5-Hearts} and both players knuckled the table, opting for a free turn. The next card off the deck was the {3-Clubs}. At this point, Lee attempted to take control of the hand, leading out with a 75,000 bet; Gus made the call.

The {J-Clubs} fell on the river and Lee quickly fired out a 150,000 bet. "Mighty big bet," Gus said, as he considered his decision. A solid minute passed, as Gus rapidly tapped his foot on the ground, while stacking and restacking his chips. Every few seconds he glanced over at Lee in search of more information, but Lee didn't budge. Gus eventually made the call and Lee turned over {Q-Hearts}{J-Hearts} for top two pair. Gus appeared stunned and held on to his cards for a few seconds before handing them over to the dealer.

Watkinson improved to 1,570,000 on the hand, while Gus dropped to 900,000.

Bryan Swanson Eliminated

Bryan Swanson's Main Event dreams were just dashed when he lost two big hands in a row.

In the first hand, Swanson had a majority of his chips in the pot holding {5-Hearts}{5-Clubs} against the {K-Clubs}{K-Diamonds} of Jason Welch. Swanson's hand failed to improve and he was left with a mere 102,000 in chips. Welch climbed to 555,000 on the hand.

A few hands later, he was all in. Swanston took his {K-Spades}{9-Spades} up against the {Q-Clubs}{8-Clubs} of Christian Togsverd. The {Q-Hearts} on the flop was all Togsverd would need to send Swanson to the rail. Togsverd is now very much in the mix with 1,500,000 in chips.
