Gold's Prospects

Jamie Gold's mother - Jane Gold
Jamie Gold's mother - Jane Gold
We recently had the chance to speak with Jamie Gold, last year's winner of the World Series of Poker, who has been walking around the Amazon Room today (Jamie is scheduled to play Day 1d), following the progress of two special players.

The first, and most important, player that Jamie has been receiving constant updates on (in fact, she called him seconds before we spoke) is his mother, Jane Gold. This is her first WSOP Main Event, but Jamie says that he has been working with her for over a month, teaching her the game of Texas Hold 'Em and trying to pass on whatever wisdom he can. "She's great, she's doing really, really great," Jamie said of her play today. Jamie said that over the last month his mother has been playing in local tournaments back home, nothing with too large of a field, and not only has she been holding her own, but has also won one as well. After nearly four hours of play this afternoon, Jamie Gold's mother, Jane Gold, is up to 42,000.

The second player that Jamie is checking on throughout the day is Jimmy D. Jamie has been mentoring Jimmy for the last year, an interesting development for those that remember last year's WSOP Main Event, where Johnny Chan sweated Jamie from the rail, as Chan had been mentoring Jamie. This is Jimmy's second WSOP Main Event, he played in last year's and placed in the money. Currently, Jimmy D is up to 27,000.

Watch out poker players playing in this year's World Series Of Poker Main Event; Jamie Gold has returned and he's brought two strong prospects with him.

As an aside, Jamie just let us know some more good news: his mother has just been sponsored by www.texasholdem.com. "She's gotta be the first mom to be sponsored, she's gotta be!" Jamie was very emotional and very happy over the sponsorship news.
