Hoyt Masters Men

darn wasp
darn wasp
Stud 8:

Just caught the end of a meaty hand involving Hoyt Corkins and Men Nguyen:

Corkins = {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{K-Spades} with {3-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{2-Spades}
Nguyen = {K-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{10-Spades}{10-Clubs} with {6-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}

Nguyen seemed relatively confident when he revealed his hand, but Corkins' threes in the hole were enough to pip his opponent and take the pot.

Limbering Up

It would appear as though some of the players are starting to feel the strain here in the Amazon Room as we get down to the nitty-gritty. Davood Mehrmand was last spotted rising from his seat and undergoing a strict stretching routine which involved the pivoting of hips and loosening of arms. For a moment, I thought he was bracing himself for a 100 yard dash.

At the moment, Mehrmand is sitting on 11,000 and currently sharing a table with Allan 'Chainsaw' Kessler.

Brunson Scoops Raymer, Whose Hand Was Lamer

Omaha 8:

Todd Brunson has scooped a nice pot away from Greg Raymer. Raymer was the aggressor until the last stages of the hand, check-raising the {7-Clubs} {J-Spades} {5-Diamonds} flop and then betting out on the {4-Diamonds} turn and calling a raise from Brunson. He merely check-called the {J-Diamonds} on the river, though, and mucked when Brunson turned over {A-Clubs} {3-Diamonds} {6-Hearts} {K-Spades} for the second best low and a straight.

Heading for a Payday

We are fast approaching the money -- down to just 75 players now, with 40 places paying out, one lucky guy or gal will be walking away tomorrow with the $232,911 first prize, as well as that beautiful, shiny bracelet.

Brunson Takes a Hit

Stud 8:

Todd Brunson has just lost a very costly pot indeed and is now down to a paltry 10,000 in chips.

With Brunson showing {6-Spades} {5-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{K-Clubs}, his opponent check-raised him on the river from 2,400 to 4,800 with {5-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}.

Perhaps already knowing his fate, Brunson reluctantly made the call, shaking his head and tilting his neck in the process.

Met by a {A-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} for a straight to the seven and an A-3-4-5-6 low, Brunson exhaled a deep sigh and looked at his cards frustratedly, as if hoping they would magically change into a winning hand if he glared at them menacingly enough.

After laying down his inferior {A-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} onto the felt, Brunson conceded the hand and the pot was passed over to his neighboring foe.

Brunson Back In It

Stud 8:

A nice scoop for Todd Brunson, who bet every street with {5-Clubs} {8-Diamonds} {5-Spades} {A-Clubs} and got himself all in on seventh street. His opponent, showing {7-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds} {8-Spades}, flat-called every street, and mucked when Brunson turned over {4-Clubs} {7-Clubs} {6-Spades} for a straight and a seven-low.

Brunson back up to 23,000.
