One Round Down, Two More to Come

It was a short day for some, and a long, long one for others. Eleven-and-a-half hours after the first cards went in the air, Gregg Turk finally took the last of Matt Sterling's chips, and all six of our six-handed tables for tomorrow's Round 2 of the $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout were finally set.

360 entered the event, and a number of notables did not make it through to the second round, including Phil Ivey, Barry Greenstein, David Benyamine, Mike Sexton, Daniel Negreanu, Patrik Antonius, Humberto Brenes, Phil Laak, Bill Chen, and Andy Bloch. Two 2008 WSOP bracelet winners didn't make it through Round 1: Nenad Medic (Event No. 1 winner) and Erick Lindgren (Event No. 4 winner). And Phil Hellmuth was busted as well after running his pocket kings into John Juanda's pocket aces.

Round Two will play much like today's round, with each of the tables playing down to a single winner who will then play at Sunday's six-handed final table. Players will be starting the second round with 100,000 chips, with blinds beginning at 1,000/2,000 with a 300 ante.

Several tough players will be returning tomorrow, including Burt Boutin, Eric Froehlich, Michael Gracz, Tony G, Isaac Haxton, Alex Jacob, Sirous Jamshidi, John Juanda, Greg Mueller, Joe Sebok, and Erik Seidel.

Everyone who survived to tomorrow is guaranteed $16,920 for winning their tables today. Those who win their tables tomorrow and make the final table will each win at least $38,070 (sixth place prize money). And the winner of Event No. 11 will take home a cool $477,900. See the "Prizepool and Payouts" link for a complete list of payouts.

See you tomorrow at 2pm Vegas time for Round 2!
