John Phan Has Been Eliminated

John Phan
John Phan
John Phan came into play today with a short stack and he didn't get the early double-up he was looking for. Yury Shapiro raised to 4,500 and Phan moved all in from the big blind for his last 13,000. Shapiro made the call and his {A-Spades} {Q-Clubs} led Phan's {K-Clubs} {J-Clubs}. Both players hit a pair on the {2-Diamonds} {K-Spades} {A-Diamonds} flop, but the board ran out {9-Hearts} {7-Hearts} and Phan was eliminated.

Things Moving Quickly

We started the day with 137 players and within the first ten minutes we've already lost seven of them. Play will go hand-for-hand the closer we get to 100 players, which at this rate may be very soon.

Let's Gamble

Pedro Rios made a big raise before the flop that was enough to set Duncan Bell all in. Bell chose to call for the rest of his chips with {4-Hearts} {4-Diamonds} and found that he was crushed by Rios' {A-Diamonds} {A-Clubs}. The {K-Clubs} {K-Hearts} {8-Clubs} flop brought Bell no help, nor did the {7-Spades} on the turn, but on the river Bell spiked the {4-Clubs} to brutally crack Rios' aces and double up.

Eli Elezra has been Eliminated

So far today has not been a good day to pick up pocket aces. With the board reading {2-Diamonds} {3-Clubs} {Q-Hearts} {8-Spades} Dean Bui checked and Eli Elezra bet 30,000. Bui check-raised to 71,000 and Elezra moved all in, only to find that his {A-Clubs} {A-Hearts} had been outflopped by Bui's {Q-Spades} {Q-Clubs}. The {6-Spades} fell on the river and Eli Elezra, who came into play today as the chip leader, has been eliminated.

Tran Running Hot

Theo Tran has told us that he's been running incredibly hot in Day 2 of this event. So far Theo has found pocket queens, pocket kings, and even managed to crack aces.

Kenna James Loses a Big Pot

With the board reading {4-Hearts} {7-Clubs} {6-Spades} {Q-Hearts} {3-Clubs}, Anthony Phillips bet 20,500 and Kenna James took some time looking Phillips and the situation over. James finally made the call and Phillips turned over {Q-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds} for two pair, and that was good enough to take the pot. That boosted Phillips up over 125,000 and left James with just a bit more than 20,000.
