Strzemp Doubles Up, Nearly Has Heart Attack

All in before the flop, John Strzemp was looking good for the double-up against Jason Young.

Young: {A-Clubs} {10-Spades}
Strzemp: {A-Diamonds} {K-Hearts}

Flop: {5-Spades} {6-Spades} {2-Clubs} -- no change

Turn: {10-Diamonds} -- a collective gasp from the crowd, "Oh f**k," from Strzemp

River: {K-Clubs} -- muttered curses turn to whoops of joy as Strzemp enjoys a brief surge of adrenaline and a full double-up to 2.9 million.

Jason Young is reduced to 2.7 million, meaning that our current chip leader is Mike Schwartz on 4.4 million.

Strzemp Closes in on Schwartz

John Strzemp
John Strzemp
John Strzemp is seemingly unstoppable at the moment. Whilst we were reporting his double through, he added another couple of hundred thousand to his stack with a turned straight against Jason Young.

Then, a few hands later, Mike Schwartz limped on the button, Young made up the blind and Strzemp checked providing us with a rare three-way pot.

Both checked the {3-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds} flop only for Schwartz to bet 120,000 on the {Q-Hearts} turn once his two foes had checked. Young folded, but Strzemp called.

Strzemp checked the {A-Hearts} on the river, Schwartz bet 150,000 and Strzemp called.

"Good call!" exclaim certain segments of the crowd as Strzemp revealed a triumphant {2-Spades}{2-Hearts}. Schwartz tapped the table and mucked.

Strzemp now on 3,550,000

A Good Read

Blind on blind, Schwartz makes it 230,000 and Young calls.

They both check the {4-Clubs} {6-Spades} {9-Diamonds} flop, and Schwartz checks the {7-Diamonds} turn to Young, who bets 350,000. Schwartz calls, although he looks like he doesn't really want to.

Again Schwartz checks the {2-Clubs} river, and Young bets 500,000. Schwartz considered it for some time, before saying to Young, "I don't know why, but I put you on a K-Q." He folds anyway. He wasn't far off, though -- Young shows J-Q, and takes the pot.

Beaten on the River

Mike Schwartz and Jason Young see a {Q-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{6-Spades} flop in the small blind and big blind respectively.

Schwartz bets 130,000, Young makes it a total of 300,000 to play and Schwartz calls.

Turn = {7-Clubs}

Both players check.

River = {8-Diamonds}

Schwartz checks, Young bets 300,000 and Schwartz makes a verbal call before Young has barely finished placing his chips on the felt.

Young shows {6-Hearts}{3-Spades} believing he could well be ahead, but is angered to find Schwartz has made a bigger two pair on the river with {Q-Clubs}{8-Hearts}

Strzemp Shows Kings

Strzemp and Schwartz in the blinds limp/check their way to a {6-Hearts} {5-Hearts} {8-Hearts} flop, on which Strzemp bets 400,000. Schwartz calls.

The turn is the {J-Clubs} and they both check, and again they both check the {2-Spades} river, Schwartz hesitating over it for some time. Strzemp turns over {K-Hearts} {K-Diamonds} and Schwartz mucks, prompting cheering from the crowd at the rail which is largely made up of Strzemp's friends currently.

At Sixes and Fives

Nobody in particular has stood out as the most aggressive preflop raiser, but in recent hands, John Strzemp has been taking it to his two opponents.

Meanwhile, he also won a small pot by being the caller, Jason Young raising it to 265,000 from the small blind and Strzemp matching the bet in the big.

The {10-Hearts}{9-Spades}{8-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} board was checked all the way down where Strzemp took the pot with {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs} versus Young's {5-Spades}{5-Hearts}.

"You lost the minimum," commented Mike Schwartz.

Yanwning Young Pushes

Schwartz button-raises to 300,000, and Young calls in the small blind.

They see a {5-Hearts} {K-Diamonds} {J-Clubs} flop, and Young checks, yawning. Schwartz bets 300,000. Young pushes all his chips into the middle, still yawning - a total of 1.76 million. Schwartz mulls it over, but folds.

Counterfeited by a Duck

Previous short stack John Strzemp III is now your current chip leader with 4,200,000.

One hand that aided his climb was against Jason Young. On a flop of {2-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}, Young check-called a bet of 150,000. Check, check on the {4-Hearts} turn only for Young to check-call again, this time a bet of 250,000 on the {2-Spades} river.

Young = {6-Spades}{4-Spades}
Strzemp = {Q-Spades}{10-Hearts}

Young was not a happy chappy.
