Josh Arieh Makes Great Call

Josh Arieh
Josh Arieh
Josh Arieh has just increased his stack to 184,000 after a very impressive call.

Andy Black bet 3,000 and Josh Arieh called. The player in the big blind then raised the pot, prompting a fold from Black. Arieh made the call and the flop came:

{9-Spades} {5-Diamonds} {3-Hearts}

The unknown player bet 20,000, which Arieh called.

The turn brought the {K-Diamonds}, and the player in the big blind pushed all in, having Arieh covered.

After several minutes of thinking, Josh Arieh made the call, showing {5-Hearts} {3-Spades} {Q-Spades} {7-Diamonds} for bottom two pair.

His opponent had {J-Hearts} {10-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} for an inside stright draw and flush draw.

The river brought the {4-Spades}, and Josh Arieh doubled up.

Juanda Eliminates Tran

After some preflop action, three players saw a flop of {5-Spades}{9-Clubs}{9-Spades}. J.C. Tran led out with his last 37,000 from the small blind, and John Juanda called from the button.

Tran: {J-Spades}{9-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{8-Hearts}
Juanda: {A-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{A-Spades}

Both had flopped trip nines, but Tran was going to need to improve to best Juanda's ace kicker. The turn was the {A-Diamonds}, and that was it for Tran.

Juanda is up to 250,000.

Hack-a-Shak Doesn't Work

On a flop of {K-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}, Tom Dwan made a pot-sized bet. Dan Shak then asked the dealer what the size of the pot was. Before the dealer could respond, Dwan quickly pushed a stack of chips in the middle. Not clear whether he was responding to an imagined pot-sized bet by Shak, or perhaps just signalling his intention to go all the way with his hand.

In any event Shak ended up putting the rest of his chips in, and the pair showed their hands:

Dwan {7-Spades}{10-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{10-Hearts}
Shak {K-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}

Dwan had a set of tens, and Shak a flush draw and inside straight draw. The turn was the {6-Clubs}, and Dwan was still ahead. The river brought the {Q-Spades}, giving Shak Broadway.

Shak is up to 135,000, and Dwan down to 155,000.

Giang Out

One can never get too comfortable in pot-limit Omaha. Thomas Wahlroos just ended Giang's day after all of Giang's draws failed to materialize.

We're down to 70 players.

Giang Picks Up Chips

Chau Giang picked up {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{5-Spades} and had another short-stacked player wanting to bet and reraise all in before the flop. His opponent showed {4-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}.

The flop came {4-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}, giving Giang's opponent hope. But the turn was the {J-Diamonds} and the river the {Q-Hearts}, and Giang's aces held up. He's up to 75,000.
