Hollywood Dave Doubles

"Hollywood" Dave Stann has a few pictures left in him today. He got all of his remaining chips in the middle on fourth street, holding {K-Clubs} {4-Hearts} {K-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds} against an opponent who showed x-x / {J-Spades} {J-Hearts}. Stann caught a third king on fifth street to make a full house, and by sixth his opponent was drawing dead and mucked his hand.

Stann has only 1,500 chips, but he also has a chair and a prayer.

Sabyl and The Shark

Humberto Brenes led out on 3rd street with 300 and Sabyl Landrum called. Brenes bet 400 more on 5th and waited...

Brenes: {J-Clubs}{4-Clubs} {10-Clubs} {7-Clubs} showing
Landrum: {Q-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} {2-Hearts} showing

Brenes looked across the table and said, "Maybe the next, you, maybe." Sabyl replied, "I have outs to beat you"; but she was not willing to take the chance of being bitten and folded. The dealer pushed Brenes a pot of 2,300 and he now sits with 10,000 total.

Men Masters Another Opponent

Men "The Master"  Nguyen
Men "The Master" Nguyen
Men "The Master" Nguyen continues to show his mastery of seven-card stud. Showing a board of {2-?} {2-?} {3-?} {4-?}, Nguyen check-raised his opponent on the river, only to see the opponent come over the top with a three-bet. Nguyen thought it over, then called. His opponent revealed three queens; Nguyen had {A-?} {3-?} {3-?} in the hole for a full house, threes full of twos.

Filippi Short on Spades...

Amnon Filippi has enjoyed an excellent start to his tournament today, but even he can miss a draw. When we caught up to this hand on sixth street, Filippi showed a board of x-x / {3-Hearts} {Q-Spades} {J-Spades} {10-Spades} against his opponent's x-x / {3-Diamonds} {8-Spades} {10-Hearts} {J-Diamonds}. His opponent bet; Filippi called. On the river, Filippi's opponent bet again. Filippi squeezed his cards, then flashed a single spade before tossing his hand in the muck.

He still retains about 15,000 chips.

...But Hennigan Long on Clubs

John Hennigan is another player who has enjoyed an excellent start today, and he keeps on rolling. With a board of x-x / {8-Clubs} {10-Clubs} {3-Spades} {9-Clubs}, he raised an opponent on sixth street who showed a board of x-x / {J-Spades} {10-Hearts} {J-Hearts} {3-Clubs}. His opponent called one bet on the river to see the bad news: Hennigan had three clubs in the hole, {A-Clubs} {Q-Clubs} {3-Clubs}, to make an ace-high flush in clubs.

Hennigan is up to 18,700.

David Sklansky Doubles Up

David Sklansky
David Sklansky
Sklansky committed the last of his chips on fourth street. Phil Ivey and another player, who was all in, were along for the ride. The full house showing was enough for Sklansky to beat Ivey's pair showing and the other players three jacks who were face up.

The table looked like this:

Sklansky: {Q-?} {Q-?} {Q-?} {3-?} {3-?}
Ivey: {8-?} {8-?} {10-?} {7-?} {9-?}
Unknown: {J-?} {J-?} {J-?} X X

No Repeat

There will be no repeat for last year's champion, Michael Keiner. He appears to have been sent to the rail. Circumstances unknown.

Pros Continue to Climb

Chip Jett is the latest pro to eclipse the 10,000 chip mark. He did so in a pot that went to the river three-handed. Showing {A-Spades} {5-Diamonds} {5-Hearts} {2-Spades}, Jett bet. One opponent folded, but the other one called with a board of {8-Clubs} {6-Clubs} {6-Hearts} {3-Spades}. Jett opened an ace and a five in the hole, to make a full house, fives full of aces. His opponent never opened his own hole cards, choosing to muck instead.
