Sadly for our male onlookers here today (well, mainly me), stunning Liv Boeree has been eliminated from today's event. She moved all in with but ran into the of Matthew Hilger, which held up on an ensuing, and rather emphatic board.
Dan Quinn has doubled through courtesy of Chris Bell. We didn't catch the hand, but can inform you that whilst Qunn leaps to 46,000, Bell simultaneously drops down to 69,000.
Derek Dempsey moved all in on the river of a board and Sunny Chattha called, but mucked when Dempsey turned over . Chattha down to 25,000, and Dempsey doubled up to 62,700.
A few hands later, though, Dempsey doubled up Jeff Sluzinski to 70,000 -- Sluzinski raised and then went over the top of Dempsey's reraise with . Dempsey's failed to hit on the board, and his subsequent comments to Sluzinski regarding what he thought of how he had played the hand resulted in Dempsey being issued with an eight-hand penalty. Yikes.
Shawn Van-Asdale has doubled up to 42,000, his holding up against Josef Bachar's on the board. Bachar meanwhile sinks to 41,000 -- still impressive seeing as he started the day on around 7,000.
Trevor Lawson raises to 6,000 in the cutoff, and Clonie Gowen goes all in from the big blind for another 12,000. Lawson called, and discovered that his were in trouble against Gowen's .
From time to time a calming influence is required at the table, and today that person was Clonie Gowen. With one player yelling at the dealer for accidentally mucking his cards, Gowen quoted the TD rules in which players are responsible for the protection of their own hands and cannot blame the dealer if they are subsequently pulled into the muck. The player seemed to accept this and the situation was quickly diffused without the need for a tournament director to step in.
I wish we had Gowen down at my local cardroom, although that's just because I'm tired of looking at big, burly men.
Cristian Dragomir is no more -- he raised from the button and then went all in for 30,000 total to a reraise from Jeff Sluzinski in the small blind. Call.
