A Contrast of Styles

This will be an interesting battle and we're not really sure what to expect.

Marco Johnson has been relentlessly aggressive in raising preflop and taking down small pots, and has been very solid throughout. Meanwhile Alexandre Gomes has often taken down big pots with all in moves, and has certainly had some luck to be at this point. He seems prepared to gamble, while you feel that Johnson will be patient and wait for his spot to strike.

The players are still relatively deep compared to the blinds, so you'd expect a fair amount of heads up play, but the way this final table has gone so far, we could see a big pot at any moment!

Marco Johnson Takes a Million Chip Pot

Both players limped in preflop. On a flop of {9-Spades} {5-Clubs} {K-Diamonds}, Marco Johnson bet out 70,000 and Alexandre Gomes made the call.

Both players checked the turn of the {2-Spades}.

When the river fell the {7-Hearts}, Gomes bet out 255,000 chips and then Johnson raised to 1,005,000. Gomes made the call and Johnson showed {8-Spades} {6-Clubs} for the straight. Gomes mucked his hand.

Gomes Makes Trips

Alexandre Gomes raised it up to 240,000 from the button and Marco Johnson made the call in the big blind.

They took a flop of {5-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{J-Hearts} and both players checked. The turn brought the {6-Clubs} and Johnson checked to Gomes who fired out 325,000. Johnson made the call.

The river was the {K-Hearts} and Johnson checked to Gomes who thought for several minutes before counting out 675,000 and sliding it into the middle. Johnson quickly called as Gomes turned over {7-Clubs}{6-Spades} for trips to take down the pot.

Things are back where they started for this heads up contest with Johnson on around 2.5 million and Gomes up to 6.7 million.

Marco Johnson Doubles Up

Preflop, Marco Johnson made a raise to 125,000 and Alexandre Gomes reraised. Before he could get the raise out, Johnson announced all in and Gomes called.

Johnson: {J-Clubs} {J-Spades}
Gomes: {A-Spades} {Q-Spades}

The flop was {K-Clubs} {2-Clubs} {9-Clubs}, giving Johnson a flush draw to go along with his pair. The turn fell the {J-Hearts}, giving Johnson a set, but also now giving Gomes a straight draw. The river fell the {7-Spades} and Johnson doubled up to 5,020,000 in chips. Johnson is now the chip leader.

Brazil!

Alexandre Gomes and Friends
Alexandre Gomes and Friends
Alexandre Gomes has a strong Brasillian contingent here today. There cheer him on through thick and thin, and during the break were taking pictures with him as if he had already won the event. Right now, Gomes is proudly wearing the flag of Brazil on his back.

All we need is a soccer announcer to come by and yell out "Goal! Goal!" after every hand.
