Top Pair for Murphy

John Murphy made it 1,000 to go preflop and a player on the button moved all in for his remaining 2,625. Murphy made the call and showed J-8 while his opponent held pocket fours. Murphy hit an eight on the flop and eliminated his opponent while raising his stack up past 27,000.

Phan Takes the Lead

Young Phan and Men "The Master" Nguyen both called a preflop raise of 900 from a player in middle position. The flop came {K-Hearts} {3-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds} and the player in middle position made it 1,700 to go. Men got out of the way while Phan raised it to 4,700. His opponent moved all in and Phan insta-called, showing pocket threes for a flopped full house. His opponent showed pocket aces and was eliminated after failing to improve on either the turn nor the river. After the hand, Phan is up to 35,000 and is atop our chip charts.

Pham Lets it Go

David Pham led out preflop and was raised by the small blind. Pham called and saw a flop of {A-Spades} {Q-Diamonds} {2-Hearts} and Pham's opponent made it 3,500 to go. Pham raised to 8,800 and his opponent moved all in. Pham ultimately folded the hand, dropping him down to just 9,000 in chips.

Kessler Doubles Up

Allen "Chainsaw" Kessler has just doubled through an opponent and now sits with right around 10,000 in chips. He got it all in holding {A-Diamonds} {K-Spades} against his opponent's pocket queens and spiked an ace on the flop to secure the double-up.

Rapid Pace

While we've been keeping you updated on the pace of the day, it's worth noting that eliminations are still coming in rapid-fire ways.

We're down to just 890 players remaining, eliminating nearly 2,000 players after only five hours of play. To keep with our average, that's roughly 362 eliminations per hour. That figure has dipped a bit since earlier, but at this pace, we will have only a slight few remaining going into tomorrow's Day 2.

Smith Running Well

Howard Smith led out from middle position preflop and was raised all in by the big blind. Smith called with pocket tens to see the big blind show pocket nines. A ten on the flop sealed the fate of the all-in player and Howard won the hand as no help came by the river.

Liu Can Handle Queens

Preflop, J.J. Liu made it 900 to go when Joe Awada raised to 2,500. Liu called and the flop fell {J-Diamonds} {10-Clubs} {4-Spades}. Liu checked the flop and Awada quickly fired 3,500 in. Liu raised to 8,500 and Awada got out of the way, saying, "You've got a huge hand. I know it."

The secret stayed with Liu, as she mucked without showing.

Tran on the Rise

On a flop of {10-Spades} {2-Diamonds} {10-Clubs}, J.C. Tran made it 1,500 to go and a player in middle position had called when the player on the button moved all-in for 2,125. Tran called, as did the player in middle position. The turn brought the {K-Clubs} and both players checked. The river was the {8-Hearts} and Tran led out for 2,500. His opponent folded and Tran showed pocket eights for a full house on the river while his opponent, who was all in, showed A-10 and was eliminated.

After the hand, Tran is up to 23,000.

Slimming Down

Thomas "Amarillo Slim" Preston limped in from mid-position and called after the button made it 1,200 to go. The flop came {6-Hearts} {2-Hearts} {5-Spades} and both players checked. The turn brought the {K-Diamonds} and Slim's opponent led out for 1,200. Slim bumped the bet to 2,700, which put his opponent all in. His opponent called, showed A-K while Slim showed K-J. The river was of no help and Slim fell down to just 1,300 after the hand.
