It's a bit later in the tournament than usual, but the prize pool has finally been announced. 381 players ponied up $10,000 each to create a prize pool, after the vig and dealer toke, of $3,581,400. 36 players will make the money, with 36th place paying $25,069 and 1st place paying $859,549.

"Who's Winning the HORSE?"

Players have been coming over to our media table all throughout the day to ask us the same question: "Who's winning the 50K HORSE?" Many of the players in today's PLO field have made last longer prop bets with other players, each one getting to choose a "horse" of their own from the eight players who made the final table in the 50K HORSE event, which is being played simultaneous to this event in the Milwaukee's Best Light No-Limit Lounge in the far corner of the Amazon Room.

For the record, four players remain in the HORSE event: Michael DeMichele, Scotty Nguyen, Erick Lindgren and Matt Glantz. DeMichele is the chip leader with about 40% of the chips in play.

Don't Force It

Jonas Entin and Leif Force recently tangled in a heads-up battle. We pick up the action on the flop, with the board reading {2-Hearts} {2-Spades} {K-Diamonds}. Entin checks, Force bets, and Entin calls.

The turn comes the {4-Diamonds}. Entin bets out this time, putting in 4,500 chips. Force makes the call.

Fifth street: {J-Diamonds}. Entin checks it over to his opponent, and Force makes a bet of 12,000. Endin comes back check-raising to 36,000, and Force calls. Jonas Entin turns over {4-Spades} {4-Clubs} {A-Hearts} {3-Hearts}, and he takes down the pot with a full house. He and Force trade places, him up to 116,000 and Force down under 100,000.

Girl Power

Clonie Gowen
Clonie Gowen
The last female in the tournament, Clonie Gowen, is making her presence known. She raised to 4,500 preflop, then called after Ryan Daut reraised to 15,000. Gowen checked the {3-Clubs} {8-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds} flop to Daut, who immediately moved all in for his last 13,000. Gowen made the call.

Gowen: {3-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds} {5-Hearts} {4-Hearts}
Daut: {A-Hearts} {A-Spades} {K-Spades} {Q-Diamonds}

Gowen had bottom pair and a wrap straight draw against Daut's unimproved aces, making Gowen a huge favorite. She blanked the turn {Q-Clubs}, but the river {6-Spades} filled her straight to eliminate Daut.

Gowen eclipsed the six-figure mark after the hand, with 115,000 chips.

Kessler Busto

Allen "Chainsaw" Kessler never really got it going today. He finally found himself allin preflop for his last 12,000 chips with naked queens. One player, George Abdallah, called him with {A-Hearts} {J-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds} {4-Clubs} and improved to the best hand on the river. Kessler is eliminated.

I'm Robert Williamson III, I Am

Robert Williamson III and another player got it all in on the flop, with the board showing {3-Spades} {8-Hearts} {10-Clubs}. Williamson bet the pot, and his opponent raised all in. Williamson made the call, turning over {K-Diamonds} {J-Spades} {9-Diamonds} {7-Spades}. His opponent held a very similar {K-Clubs} {9-Clubs} {7-Hearts} {2-Clubs}.

The turn card made both men their straights, as the {6-Clubs} peeled off. The river card made a better straight, but only for Williamson this time. It was the {Q-Diamonds}, and it ran him up to queen-high with his straight, winning him a pot worth over 40,000 chips.

The Croc Bares His Teeth

The Croc devours Dario's chips, Hungry Hungry Hippos-style
The Croc devours Dario's chips, Hungry Hungry Hippos-style
We pick up the action for this hand where a huge pot is brewing between Dario Minieri, Billy "The Croc" Argyros, and another player at the table who has a big stack. The board shows {J-Hearts} {10-Hearts} {6-Spades}. On the flop, Minieri is all in for 4,500, Argyros is all in for 70,400, and the third opponent is in there as well, having both men covered.

Minieri: {2-Hearts} {5-Hearts} {10-Spades} {J-Spades}
Argyros: {A-Diamonds} {A-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds} {9-Hearts}
Opponent: {A-Spades} {K-Clubs} {J-Diamonds} {J-Clubs}

The turn and river come {8-Clubs} and {K-Diamonds} respectively, giving The Croc a come-from-behind seven-card straight, and shipping him a huge pot. When the turn card hit, Argyros erupted with joy, and when the hand was over, he shouted, "T6 is back, baby!"

Where Are the Womenfolk At?

We just did a quick scan of the field and determined that, of the 144 players who remain, Clonie Gowen is the sole surviving female. We're reminded of a story from the $1,500 PLO tournament a few weeks ago. A female Asian player was broken to a new table. A male Asian player noticed that she was wearing a Syracuse sweatshirt and started interrogating her.

Man: Did you go to Syracuse?
Woman: Yes.
Man: Are you Korean?
Woman: Yes.
Man: Are you over 30?
Woman: Yes.
Man: PLO is a tough game for a girl.

He busted about ten minutes later.
