Applause

Scattered applause just broke out on Brasilia #5. We assume that means the bubble has burst. We'll have the hand, and the bubble boy, shortly.

Arieh Returning to Low Earth Orbit

Josh Arieh and Kido Pham are taking turns blind raising (they call it "straddling") on Brasilia #5. Arieh gave back another 50,000 chips when he raised to 13,000 preflop, Julian Powell reraised to 41,500 and Arieh called. The {4-Clubs} {2-Spades} {8-Spades} flop gave Powell a gutshot and an overpair with his {A-Spades} {A-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} {3-Diamonds}, which he bet all in. Arieh called with {2-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds} {10-Spades} {k-Spades}. The turn popped {7-Hearts} and the river {A-Clubs}, making Powell a set of aces.

Last Woman Standing Doesn't Quite Make the Money

Clonie Gowen Eliminated
Clonie Gowen Eliminated
Clonie Gowen has been the last woman in the field since roughly 150 players remained. She was finally eliminated in 38th place, two spots off the money, by Shawn Buchanan.

Gowen, in late position. called Buchanan's raise to 16,000. Buchanan led out for pot on the {6-Clubs} {10-Clubs} {2-Hearts} flop, and Gowen called all in for less. She was racing when she tabled {K-Spades} {Q-Spades} {Q-Clubs} {5-Clubs} for an overpair and a flush draw, and Buchanan tabled {A-Diamonds} {K-Clubs} {10-Hearts} {6-Spades} for two pair. The turn {10-Spades} made a full house for Buchanan. Gowen couldn't hit one of the remaining queens on the river and was knocked out.

Pappas Doesn't Make It

Chris Pappas will have to go home thinking about the money he could have made today if he had survived just a little bit longer. He was all in preflop against Brant Hale. Pappas had the best hand with {K-Spades} {K-Clubs} {J-Diamonds} {3-Clubs}, but Hale's {A-Spades} {K-Hearts} {9-Clubs} {7-Hearts} prevailed when the board came {8-Spades} {4-Clubs} {2-Diamonds} {A-Diamonds} {9-Hearts}.

Hale's chip stack is up to about 370,000.

Arieh Not Invincible After All

Somebody finally helped themselves to a little chunk of Josh Arieh's chips. In this hand, we picked it up as Arieh raised to 20,000 from the cutoff seat. Magnus Petersson had limped in middle position, and he called the raise as well.

The two men saw the flop come {3-Spades} {K-Diamonds} {K-Spades}. On the flop, Petersson got the last 89,500 of his chips into the pot, and Arieh had him at risk of elimination as the cards were turned over.

Arieh: {A-Spades} {K-Clubs} {Q-Spades} {10-Diamonds}
Petersson: {A-Hearts} {A-Diamonds} {K-Hearts} {2-Clubs}

The two were odds-on favorites to split the pot. The {3-Clubs} changed nothing on the turn. The river came lucky for Petersson. The case ace, {A-Clubs}, fell on fifth street, improving Petersson to aces full and doubling him up to 277,000.

Gary Benson Eliminated

Bye bye, Gary Benson. He was the first player to be eliminated after dinner when he bet a flop of {10-Diamonds} {7-Spades} {3-Hearts} then called all in after David Williams raised. Benson showed {J-Spades} {10-Spades} {5-Clubs} {3-Spades} for two pair, tens and threes. Williams opened {Q-Clubs} {10-Clubs} {7-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds} for two pair, tens and sevens. The turn {8-Diamonds} and river {2-Clubs} missed both players.

Williams now has 117,000.

Step to the Rail, Sir

Phil Hellmuth, playing in Day 2 of the $1,500 HORSE tournament also taking place in the Brasilia Room, just wandered through the PLO tournament area, a string of expletives flying from his mouth.

"How many f*cking times am I going to blank out on the f*cking river?" he shouted. "Mike, I'm getting sick of it." We believe that comment was directed at Mike Matusow, who followed Hellmuth out about 30 seconds later.

The HORSE tournament just went on a break.
