Hand #25 – Corwin Cole

The button is with Jeff Courtney in Seat 7. The action folded around to David Daneshgar in the small blind who completed. Corwin Cole checked his option from the big blind.

The flop arrived {J-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{7-Hearts} and both players checked. The turn was the {A-Spades} and again both checked. The river landed {A-Diamonds} and for the third time the action is checked.

Cole showed down {2-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} to take down the pot.

Hand #27 – Dan Heimiller

The button is with Corwin Cole in Seat 9. Farzad Rouhani opened with a raise to 80,000 from under the gun and Andrey Zaichenko made the call. The action then folded to David Daneshgar in the cutoff position who popped it up to 306,000 to go. Cole folded his button and Dan Heimiller started cutting down his chips in the small blind before moving all in. Rouhani reluctantly folded as did Zaichenko. Daneshgar made the call.

Heimiller: {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds}
Daneshgar: {K-Hearts}{K-Clubs}

The board ran out {9-Hearts}{6-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{6-Diamonds} and Heimiller finds a valuable double up to move to over 1 million chips to leave Daneshgar on the short stack.

Hand #28 – Jeff Courtney

The button is with Dan Heimiller in Seat 1. Jeff Courtney raised to 76,000 from middle position, and Farzad Rouhani called him from the big blind.

The flop came {Q-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{4-Clubs}. Both checked. The turn was the {Q-Clubs}, pairing the board. Rouhani pushed out a bet of 155,000, and Courtney quickly announced a raise. After counting out his chips, he raised to 405,000.

Rouhani, acting with the same deliberation he has so far today, took his time deciding. "I'll show you if you fold," said Courtney.

Rouhani did fold. And Courtney did show his hand -- {K-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} -- as he dragged the pot.

Our Literary Leader

Matt Matros
Matt Matros
Current chip leader Matt Matros first made a splash in the poker world in 2004 when he finished 3rd in the $25,000 WPT No-Limit Hold'em Championship at the Bellagio.

Shortly after that triumph, the former software engineer published the well-regarded The Making of a Poker Player, a thoughtful chronicle of his journey from being a mathematics major and obtaining an Masters of Fine Arts in creative writing to becoming a poker pro. He's currently at work on a novel.

Hand #29 – Andrey Zaichenko

The button is with Matt Matros in Seat 2. Corwin Cole made it 75,000 to go from middle position before Dan Heimiller announced a reraise to 225,000. The action folded to Andrey Zaichenko in the big blind who moved all in for a total of 889,000. Cole got out of the way as Heimiller asked for a count. After some thought, Heimiller released his hand as Zaichenko flashed pocket queens!

Hand #31 – Farzad Rouhani

The button is with Andrey Zaichenko in Seat 4. The action folded to Farzad Rouhani in the cutoff who raised to 75,000. Jeff Courtney made the call in the big blind.

The two players took a flop of {5-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{8-Hearts}. Courtney led out with a bet of 150,000 as a seemingly frustrated Rouhani stood up and cut down his remaining chips. He eventually decided to move all in with his last 472,000 chips and Courtney quickly called.

Rouhani: {A-Hearts}{A-Spades}
Courtney: {J-Clubs}{K-Hearts}

Rouhani held the lead with his overpair and nut flush draw to leave Courtney drawing slim. The turn was the {9-Hearts} giving Rouhani the nut flush to leave Courtney drawing dead. The river is a meaningless {7-Clubs} and Rouhani doubled up to around 1 million in chips!
