What Will He Bet on Today?

Slim's Boot.
Slim's Boot.
In our field today we have poker legend Thomas "Amarillo Slim" Preston. Slim is known not only for his skill in poker but also for his wild prop bets. Today, Slim is decked out in his typical outfit including his snakeskin boots.

The Pain of Omaha

Omaha is a post-flop game of big draws. It's also a painful game when those draws don't come in. "Any ten, any king, any ace, any diamond -- how did I miss?" one player in the Tropical Room lamented. "Even a deuce would have given me half the pot!"

Duthie Damaged

Three players including John Duthie called a raise and took a flop of {10-Spades}{8-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}. Duthie led out with a bet from the big blind and received one caller.

The turn brought the {8-Hearts} and Duthie fired again. Once again his opponent called.

The river landed the {3-Spades} and both players checked it down. Duthie's opponent flipped over {2-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{3-Hearts} which was good for the high and the low as Duthie simply tossed his cards into the muck to be down to around 1,800 in chips.

Kaplan Scoops

With {J-Hearts} {8-Hearts} {3-Clubs} {4-Clubs}, Gabe Kaplan scoops a nice pot on Tropical #6 when the board comes {J-Clubs} {J-Spades} {K-Clubs} {4-Hearts} {2-Spades}. His tablemates say Kaplan is playing 95% of his hands, but upon hearing the announcement that Level 2 has started, Kaplan remarked, "OK, the blinds are going up. I gotta play tighter."

Everyone Wants an Amarillo Slim Story

Amarillo Slim and another player were involved in a pot together and at the end of the hand, Slim turned over his cards to show his hand. Typically in Omaha 8 or better players tend to turn their cards over a little more slowly than in other games. This isn't due to slowrolling, but due to the players trying to confirm what their hand was. After Slim turned over his hand, his opponent said "He slowrolled me! I was slowrolled by Amarillo Slim" Of course this was meant in jest, and everyone had a good laugh.

Seidel Sits

Erik Seidel has just taken his seat in today's event, and finds himself on the same table as Jimmy 'gobboboy' Fricke.

In a battle of old school versus new school, these two poker characters seem worlds apart but interestingly they both share something rare in common - both have finished runner-up at the Aussie Millions.

Fricke was runner-up to Gus Hansen in 2007, and Seidel fell short in this year's event against Alex Kostritsyn.
