Rail Call

As we draw closer and closer to the final couple tables, there is a crowd of spectators building along the rail. The tournament staff has just had to rope off a new area for the railbirds, as they were standing three deep in the middle of the main isle. A few of the cheerleaders have been here since the start of the day, but people have been trickling into the section since dinner ended. There are about 60 people or so huddled around the flimsy nylon ropes right now, with more making their way in as we push on into the night. With such a pro-laden field before them, it may actually be one of the few entertaining events to watch from the rail.

The Kid Does It Again!

Daniel Negreanu, Ben Gold, Michel Abecassis and Ben Boyd all see a {9-Diamonds}

flop. Boyd bets, Negreanu calls all-in for a little under a call whilst saying "I guess I have to call" and both other players call too. The turn {Q-Hearts}

and river

are checked through.

Negreanu opens {A-Hearts}

for the flopped nut straight and scoops the main pot to put him up to 75,000.

Seats Open!

Todd Brunson and Brent Carter were both all in after the turn, and Sam Khouiss called them both down, putting the fate of two players in his hands. The four cards in the middle of the table read {5-Clubs}

The two at-risk players were in bad shape against Khouiss' full book, drawing dead to the high and slim to the low. The river ragged off with the {K-Clubs}

, no help to either player. With that big pot, Sam Khouiss has eliminated two players, chipping up to 235,000 in the process.

Todd Brunson and Brent Carter have both been shown the door. "Floor, we have three seats open!" yelled Jean-Robert Bellande, not bothering to wait until the newly-eliminated players were out of earshot.

Alaei Has Two Hearts

Brian Haack kicked off the action with an under-the-gun raise. Jacobo Fernandez called from the button, as did Daniel Alaei and Matt Glantz in the blinds.

The flop rolled out {Q-Hearts}

, and Haack continued out with a bet. All three opponents called. The turn was the {7-Hearts}

, and Haack let the action check through him this time. Fernandez was last to act, and he took the opportunity to fire a bet of his own. Alaei and Glantz called, while Haack got out of the way. Fifth street brought the {4-Hearts}

, and all three players checked.

Alaei tabled {A-Diamonds}

, and nobody could match it. With his heart flush, Alaei scoops the pot and works his way up to 135,000.

board. Smith bet and Reynaud called to see the {7-Spades}

river. Smith bet once more, got a call and scooped the pot with {A-Hearts}

as Reynaud mucked.

John D'Agostino was tangled up in a pot for his tournament life, heads up with Bill Chen. On a flop of {Q-Clubs}

, D'Agostino got the rest of his ~20,000 chips into the middle, and Chen looked him up.

Dags had flopped the straight but he wasn't out of the woods just yet. The turn was a blank {5-Clubs}

, and the river was safe too as the {A-Hearts}

filled out the board. With his scoop, D'Agostino has doubled up and then some, sitting now on 43,500 chips.

Book Signing

Unfortunately the title gives it away. Barry Greenstein has just been eliminated. He was involved in a hand with Sam Khouiss and John Hennigan where they all saw a {A-Spades}

flop. Greenstein's bet was called by both before the {8-Diamonds}

came.

Greenstein moved all in for his last 5,300 and was called by Khouiss before Hennigan raised. Khouiss called so we went to the {8-Clubs}

river that was checked through.

Hennigan revealed {A-Diamonds}

to scoop the lot and make it to 191,000. Greenstein signed his book in the usual way and left.

Zolotow Finds a Spade

Matt Glantz raised it up in the cutoff seat to open the pot. The button called, as did Steve Zolotow and the big blind as well.

Four-handed then, the flop came down {J-Hearts}

. Zolotow was first to act, and he fired a bet. The big blind called, as did Matt Glantz, while the fourth player surrendered.

The turn was the {4-Diamonds}

. Zolotow bet again, this time getting rid of the big blind. Glantz called though.

Fifth street came the {Q-Spades}

. Zolotow loaded another bullet and fired, getting Glantz to call. Zolotow showed {A-Spades}

for the nuts. Glantz nodded knowingly and mucked his four cards.

Desperate For Approval

Toto Leonidas and Phil Ivey played a pot all the way to the river where we had a {A-Hearts}

board. Toto started as the aggressor but Phil took over as the hand progressed. Toto tabled {3-Diamonds}

and it was chop chop as Phil turned over {K-Spades}

.

Toto started laughing at Phil's hand Annie Duke got involved saying to the table about Phil "I teased him for being a nit and now he has opened up his game. He's desperate for my attention!"
