2009 Heads Up Championship - Final Day

After starting with 256 players, the 2009 WSOP Heads-Up Championship is down to the eight. These players will face each other in the following match-ups:

Leo Wolpert vs.
Dustin Woolf

Jamin Stokes vs.
Johnny Chan

Nathan Doudney vs.
Bryan Pellegrino

John Duthie vs.
Steve O'Dwyer

The winners of these matches will advance to Round 6 - the final four. At that point, levels will increase to forty minutes in length. Finally, the two men left standing will face each other in a best out of three match.

Johnny Chan is the only remaining player with a WSOP bracelet. In fact, a victory today would be Chan's 11th, tying him with Phil Hellmuth for the most ever.

Stay with us throughout the day to see how action unfolds in the exciting conclusion of the Heads-Up Championship.

Almost Ready

Just as the start time hit, the decision was made to move the players over to the two featured table areas. There'll be a little delay while the chips are racked up and the move is made. We should be underway in just a few minutes though.

More Delays

We're still waiting for the cameras to get ready over on the main featured table, and now the daily bracelet ceremony is about to begin on the podium. It's going to be a little while before we get rolling, after all.

Let's Go!

With the National Anthems of Sweden and England stuck in everyone's head, the cards are finally in the air, and play has begun here on Day 3!

The First Bet/Call

It's clear we're very much in the feeling-out period, as there are no contested pots being played just yet.

In the most action we've seen so far on the secondary table, Bryan Pellegrino opened with a raise to 24,000. Nathan Doudney made the call, and the flop came {7-Clubs} {2-Clubs} {4-Diamonds}. Doudney checked, then called a bet of 28,000 from his opponent.

Fourth and fifth streets were the {6-Hearts} and {2-Hearts} respectively, with both players check-checking both times.

"Six," said Doudney, and Pellegrino motioned for him to turn his cards up. He did, tabling {K-Hearts} {6-Clubs} and Pellegrino mucked.

Doudney throws the first little jab of this contest.

Dustin "Neverwin" Woolf's Aces Cracked

Leo Wolpert raised from the button to 24,000 and Dustin Woolf called. The flop came {Q-Hearts} {10-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} and both players checked. The turn brought the {8-Hearts} and Woolf check-called a 34,000 bet from Wolpert.

The river brought the {K-Clubs} . Woolf checked for a third time and Wolpert fired out 86,000. Woolf took his time before just calling the bet with pocket aces.

However, Wolpert showed {8-?} {5-?} for trips, taking down the pot.

Duthie vs. O'Dwyer: Duthie Chipping Up

In a series of small pots, John Duthie has chipped his way up to a little bit of a lead.

In the last tussle, Steve O'Dwyer raised to 16,000 from the button, and Duthie called. The flop came {4-Clubs} {5-Diamonds} {J-Spades}. When Duthie checked, O'Dwyer continued out with a bet of 20,000, which his opponent called.

Both players checked the {6-Diamonds} on fourth street. When the {K-Diamonds} completed the board, Duthie led out with a bet of 35,000. O'Dwyer considered before very deliberately sending his cards back to the dealer.

Duthie - 1,100,000
O'Dwyer - 820,000
