Another Scalp for Van Alstyne

Hold'em:

James Van Alstyne really seems to be hitting his stride in this event. In position, he reraised an early position raiser, then capped after the small blind put in the third raise. Those two players were heads up to the flop, when came down {7-Diamonds} {3-Spades} {4-Clubs}. The small blind check-called one bet, then check-called the {9-Hearts} turn and finally check-called all in on the {6-Spades} river. Van Alstyne turned up {10-Hearts} {10-Diamonds}. It was the winner over his opponent's {A-Diamonds} {K-Hearts}.

Van Alstyne is up to 117,000.

Double-Up for Micon

Omaha Hi/Lo:

Bryan Micon was in good spirits earlier in the day, playfully irritating his table mates. Now he's just trying to hang on.

Micon was all in on the {2-Spades} {A-Spades} {Q-Diamonds} flop in the Omaha round with a bad ace, {J-Hearts} {J-Spades} {A-Hearts} {4-Clubs}. He didn't improve to anything on the turn {8-Hearts}, but the river {J-Diamonds} gave Micon a set to overtake the better ace of his opponent. He's back up to 30,000 chips.

Singer Can't Shake Soulier

Stud:

Singer: x-x / {8-Hearts} {5-Spades} {10-Spades} {2-Spades} / x
Soulier: x-x / {3-Hearts} {8-Spades} {6-Spades} {A-Hearts} / x

"Are we playing Stud Hi?" Fabrice Soulier asked the dealer on fourth street. After she confirmed that the game was indeed Stud, Soulier called a bet from David Singer.

Singer bet again on fifth street, and again after Soulier checked sixth street. Both players checked the river, with Soulier turning up {Q-Spades} {3-Spades} {3-Clubs} for trip threes and the winner.

"You always have a hand when I raise," sighed Singer.

Hand-For-Hand Begins

With the tournament two places off the money and the pace of eliminations picking up slightly in the last fifteen minutes, the staff have elected to start hand-for-hand play two off the money.
