Theory and Practice

David Sklansky raised to 250 from the hijack seat, and both the player sitting to his left in the cutoff and the small blind called. The flop came {9-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{7-Spades}, and all three players checked. The turn was the {9-Hearts}. It checked to the cutoff who bet 400. Both the SB and Sklansky called.

The river was the {A-Hearts}. It again checked to the cutoff, who this time bet 900. The small blind quickly called, and Sklansky folded.

The CO tabled {2-Hearts}{2-Clubs}. The SB showed {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} and dragged the pot. Sklansky is at about 3,500 right now.

Stepping On the Set Mine

Three players limped, including Matt Christensen in the hijack seat and Hevad Khan on the button. The small blind completed, the big blind checked, and the flop came {7-Hearts}{4-Spades}{K-Spades}. The player UTG led with a bet of 250. Christensen then raised it to 900, causing the others all to fold. The UTG reraised all in with the last of his chips, and Christensen called.

The UTG player showed {K-Clubs}{Q-Spades} for top pair, but Christensen had {7-Diamonds}{7-Spades} for the set of sevens. The turn was the {8-Hearts} and the river the {10-Hearts}, and another player hit the rail.

Christensen is up over 12,000 right now. Khan has about 4,000.

Wasicka Wins One

Paul Wasicka
Paul Wasicka
A player in middle position raised to 450, and both the button and Paul Wasicka in the small blind called. The flop came {4-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{J-Clubs}. Wasicka checked, the MP player bet 750, the button folded, and Wasicka called. The turn was the {A-Hearts}. Wasicka again checked, the original raiser bet 950 this time, and Wasicka again made the call.

The river was the {8-Diamonds}. This time both players checked, and Wasicka turned over {J-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for jacks. His opponent mucked. Wasicka is at 8,500 now.

Clonie Crippled

After some preflop action had built up a pot of 3,600, the flop came {4-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{J-Spades}, prompting Clonie Gowen to move all in for 3,400. A player in late position contemplated for a while, then made the call with his last 2,900. Gowen showed {J-Hearts}{9-Hearts} for top two, while her opponent turned over {K-Spades}{8-Spades} for the spade flush draw.

The {2-Spades} came on the turn, giving Gowen's opponent his flush. The river was the {A-Hearts}, and Gowen is down to 500 chips.

Good Play Yeh

After a flop of {A-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{9-Spades}, a middle position player checked, Anthony Yeh bet 550, his opponent check-raised to 1,550, and Yeh responded by pushing all in.

Music to Singer's Ears

A player raised to 325 from middle position, and David Singer called from the button. The flop came {K-Hearts}{5-Spades}{J-Hearts}. The original raiser bet 400, and Singer called. The turn was the {4-Spades}, and this time Singer called his opponent's bet of 1,000.

The river brought the {Q-Spades} and a check from the MP player. Singer pushed out a stack big enough to put his opponent all-in. His opponent tossed his cards to the dealer, tapped the felt, and said the phrase that is always music to a player's ears: "Nice hand, sir."

Singer has 8,500.
