Ryan Fee Eliminated

Big pots develop very, very quickly in pot-limit Omaha. Sorel Mizzi limped into the pot for 2,000 and was called by late arrival Isaac Baron on the button before Ryan Fee potted from the small blind to 10,000. Mizzi called that bet, only to see Baron re-pot to 42,000 from the button. Fee moved all in, folding Mizzi, and Baron called.

Fee: {6-Hearts} {7-Hearts} {8-Spades} {10-Spades}
Baron: {A-Diamonds} {A-Hearts} {J-Spades} {6-Clubs}

It was an Omaha flip, with Baron's hand the slight favorite. That edge held on a board of {Q-Clubs} {4-Diamonds} {10-Clubs} {4-Spades} {9-Clubs} to send Fee out the door. Baron now has about 190,000.

A Little Dig at Hougaard

One of the players at Jesper Hougaard's table must have been reading up on Hougaard's Day 1 progress in the tournament last night after play concluded. Hougaard took the chip lead late by hitting a very thin draw. As we reported yesterday,

"After a flop of {A-Diamonds} {J-Clubs} {4-Spades} Jesper Hougaard bet out 7,200 and was raised by his opponent to 23,200. Jesper reraised pot and his opponent called all in.

Hougaard: {A-Hearts} {K-Spades} {Q-Diamonds} {2-Hearts}
Opponent: {A-Spades} {A-Clubs} {7-Spades} {4-Diamonds}

Drawing very thin in this now 200,000 pot, Hougaard hit a miracle {10-Hearts} on the turn to make his straight. The board failed to pair on the river when the {5-Diamonds} hit and Hougaard took the biggest pot of the day thus far."

Hougaard's table-mate today couldn't resist a dig.

"Was that hand you doubled up on last night reported correctly?" he asked. Hougaard responded that it was.

"You just had ace-king-queen?" Hougaard's opponent asked skeptically. Again, Hougaard grinned sheepishly and responded that it was, but then added that if he had lost the hand he still would have had about 100,000 chips.

Baron on a Heater

Isaac Baron
Isaac Baron
We came back to Isaac Baron's table after the elimination of Ryan Fee to see Baron playing another big pot. With the board showing {Q-Clubs} {J-Hearts} {5-Spades} {3-Diamonds}, Baron's opponent checked, inducing a bet of 6,500 from Baron. That bet was check-raised to 26,500. Baron wanted to see the river, so he put the extra chips in the pot.

The river fell {J-Spades}. Baron's opponent bet 25,000. Baron tanked for about a minute and then called. We never saw his opponent's hand; he snap-mucked as soon as Baron called. Baron turned his hand over anyway, showing {K-Spades} {K-Hearts} {7-Spades} {5-Hearts} to collect another pot. He now has about 270,000 chips.

Recent Eliminations

Richard En, Timothy Finne and Gary Benson were both recently eliminated from the tournament. Sam Khouiss, Van Marcus and Jeff Lisandro are still carrying the flag for Team Australia.

Steve Conigliaro Eliminated

Steve Conigliaro raised to 7,000 from the button and Ralph Perry called from the small blind. Sorel Mizzi then reraised from the big blind to 28,000 and Conigliaro moved all in for 36,400. Perry got out of the way and Mizzi called.

Conigliaro: {A-Clubs} {K-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} {6-Diamonds}
Mizzi: {A-Hearts} {A-Diamonds} {5-Clubs} {2-Clubs}

The board came {9-Clubs} {5-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} {9-Spades} {Q-Clubs} eliminating Conigliaro from the tournament.

Another Hit for Team Australia

Sam Khouiss isn't out, but he's down to 51,000 and steaming after a big pot against overnight chip leader Jesper Hougaard. There were 100,000 chips in the pot at the river, {A-Spades} {2-Diamonds} {A-Hearts} {3-Clubs} {K-Spades}. Hougaard had first action and made a suspiciously small bet of 20,000. Khouiss called to see Hougaard turn over the second nuts, {A-Clubs} {3-Spades} {10-Clubs} {9-Hearts}, a full house. Khouiss flashed two of his cards, the {A-Diamonds} and {Q-Spades}, then angrily mucked.

After losing that pot, Khouiss seems to be flicking his cards with a little more aggression. It looks like he's steamed.

Ewing Busto

So many Aussies started in the field, and they all keep falling. David Ewing limped into a pot from under the gun and was called by David Ulliott before the big blind, Steve Sarrafzadeh, raised pot. Ewing then moved all in, drawing a muttered comment from Ulliott about limp-reraising from under the gun.

Ulliott mucked, but Sarrafzadeh called with {A-Diamonds} {k-Clubs} {J-Clubs} {9-Diamonds}. Predictably, Ewing turned over {A-Spades} {A-Hearts} {2-Spades} {2-Clubs}. The board ran out {5-Spades} {J-Hearts} {J-Spades} {6-Hearts} {6-Diamonds}, and that was the ballgame for Ewing.

Le Can't Outdraw Palevic

Nam Le - eliminated
Nam Le - eliminated
All the chips were in the middle for Nam Le on a flop of {5-Diamonds} {2-Hearts} {4-Hearts}. He bet 15,000, then called all in for 28,000 after Rifat Palevic raised pot. Palevic showed down {5-Hearts} {2-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts} {Q-Spades}, two pair. Le was on a draw with {A-Hearts} {8-Hearts} {9-Clubs} {J-Diamonds}, but whiffed the turn and the river, which came running non-heart treys. Palevic dragged the pot and Le headed off to consider which event to play next.
