It's No-Limit Day!

Event 39 is a type of event that has become the bread and butter of the World Series of Poker in the last few years -- it's a $1,500 no-limit hold'em event. These events routinely draw the most runners, everyone hoping to punch their golden ticket to the final table, a huge payday, and maybe -- just maybe! -- a WSOP gold bracelet.

We can't guess how many players will show up today. It'll be in the thousands, a testament to poker's enduring popularity. They'll be let into the Amazon Room (and the Brasilia Room, and probably even the Miranda Room) in just a few minutes. Play is underway at noon. See you then!

A Few Notables to Start the Day

It's early yet, and players are still settling into their seats, but we haven't seen a ton of notables in the Blue and Orange sections of the Amazon Room. So far we've spotted only Allen Kessler, Maria Mayrinck, Brandon Cantu, Marco Traniello, Dutch Boyd and Matt Stout.

The situation is a little better over in Brasilia, where Quinn Do, Justing Young, Dennis Phillips, Hevad Khan, Bryan Devonshire, Minh Nguyen, Kevin Saul, Young Phan, Robert Cheung and Jordan Morgan are all within the rank and file.

Stout Splashing Around

Matt "allinat420" Stout is in the field this afternoon, and he's wasted little time getting his feet wet.

With a player limping in under the gun, Stout put in a raise to 225. The betting folded around to the limper who made the call, and the flop brought out {A-Hearts} {9-Hearts} {A-Diamonds}. The limper led out into the pot with a small bet of 200. Stout quickly slipped in a raise to 700. Without hesistation, his opponent announced, "Reraise," and flicked an extra 500 chips back into the middle to make it 1,200 total.

Stout pulled his earphone out of his right ear, re-checked his cards, shot a quick glance across the felt, and slid his cards back to the muck. He's dropped to 3,575 here in the early going.

Faces in Red

We finally made it over to the Red section of the Amazon Room and pulled a few more faces out of the crowd. Bill Edler is over there. Shannon Shorr is on 106 next to Jarred Solomon. Tony Dunst is on 71.

And everyone's favorite perenially cashing Russian, Nikolay Evdakov, is on 104. Evdakov has a bit of work to do if he hopes to cash today. He's already down to about 1,300 chips after calling 1,500 on the river from an opponent who showed down a ten-high straight -- which also happened to be the nuts.

Don't Forget about Miranda!

Yep, we're spread across three different rooms today. A slew of tables in the Miranda Room have been commandeered for this event. Among the players sitting at those tables are J.J. Liu, Tom Franklin, Jon Aguiar, Todd Witteles, David Gee, Mark Seif and Roland de Wolfe.

Man Down

Sometimes you run like a god, sometimes you get crushed like an ant. On our second pass by Dennis Phillips' table, he was no longer in his seat, there were no chips on the table and the seat card was out. We take that to mean Mr. Phillips is out.

Some Latecomers

The first walk through the room was a bit lacking in familiar faces, but on second pass, it seems a few more notables are beginning to fill in the empty chairs.

Anna Wroblewski is lurking over in the orange section, as are Darryll Fish and Catherine Calhoun. Allen Bari is in blue, sporting his standard orange Yankees hat. Also showing up late to blue are JC Tran, Alex Bolotin, Veronica Dabul, David "The Maven" Chicotsky, Alex Fitzgerald, and David Pham.

Runners Aplenty

The big blue board shows 2,689 players currently registered for Event #39. That number will continue to climb over the next hour or so as registration is open until the end of the second level.
