Quack Quack

Paul Magriel
Paul Magriel
We walked past just in time to hear Paul Magriel utter his favorite phrase while betting 2,200 on a board of {2-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}.

When his opponent folded, he asked what Magriel had hit. Obviously, he doesn't know who he's playing. Magriel is now sitting with 13,000.

And the Worst Shall be First

In one of the biggest hands we've seen all day, a player in middle position moved all in for 2,475 and got called before Ricardo Queiroz reraised all in for 2,500 more.

The original caller made the second call, and the hands were shown.

Player 1: {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}
Player 2: {J-Diamonds}{J-Spades}
Queiroz: {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}

When the board came {2-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{K-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}, Queiroz had enough heart to make his flush and take the pot, giving him a chip stack of nearly 13,000.

Jones Rolls On

Jesse Jones and one other player called a preflop raise of 600, taking us to a flop of {5-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}.

When action checked to Jones, he bet 2,700 and both opponents called before everyone checked down the rest of the board which came {Q-Hearts}{10-Clubs}.

When Jones tabled {A-Spades}{4-Diamonds}, his three aces took the pot and kept his stack at 15,000.

Chip Counts

A few notable stacks around the room are:

Bruce Buffer - 4,600
Al D'Amato - 3,600
Susie Isaacs - 3,450
Shirley Williams - 5,900
Berry Johnston - 8,000

Bottom Pair No Good

When the player under the gun limped for 200, action folded to the cutoff who min-raised. Both the big blind and under the gun called.

On a flop of {8-Spades}{5-Clubs}{K-Spades}, action checked to the cutoff who moved in for 700. The big blind called and the player under the gun check-raised to 5,200. The big blind folded, and the cutoff said "I hope that's two spades" as he tabled {Q-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}.

It wasn't. When the player under the gun showed {K-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}, top pair held as the board finished {4-Hearts}{6-Clubs}.

The Saga of Marty Kaufman

Marty Kaufman has had a down and up day. Earlier in the tournament, Kaufman had left his table thinking he'd gone bust when another player chased him down, letting him know he still had 200 chips left.

Kaufman returned, and promptly doubled up, and then doubled again, giving him 1,000 before the hand we caught on the flop. Kaufman's opponent bet 1,050 on a board of {J-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{K-Spades} and Kaufman called.

Kaufman: {A-?}{K-?}
Opponent: {A-?}{J-?}

Just when it looked like his day was done, again, Kaufman sucked out as the board finished {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}. He now has 2,500 going into the dinner break.
