Juanda Moving in the Right Direction

Okay, it's time for the table to take notice of John Juanda again.

In his last pot, Abe Mosseri opened with the raise, Juanda re-raised, and Mosseri was the lone caller. Mosseri took two cards and check-called a bet from Juanda after he drew one.

On the second draw, Juanda patted and bet again, and Mosseri called after drawing the same two. He would pick one more card on the final round, and it was worth a call when Juanda made one last bet.

In the end, J.J. showed down 7-6-5-3-2, and Number Three is number one for this hand. With that nice pot, Juanda has worked his stack all the way back to 375,000.

Tanaka Tumbles

Abe Mosseri raised to start the action, and Masayoshi Tanaka came in from the big blind. He would draw two-one-one while Mosseri drew one card twice before standing pat on the last round. Each step of the way, Tanaka was checking and calling single bets from his opponent.

At the end of the hand, Mosseri tabled another good one: 8-7-4-3-2. Eighty-seven wins again, and Tanaka has taken a solid hit back down to 365,000. Mosseri has been hanging around 1,000,000 for a while now, and his current count sits at 965,000.

Schneider Doubles Up

Julie Schneider raised from the button, and Masayoshi Tanaka re-raised from the small blind. She called, and each of them drew one card. Tanaka bet out, and Schneider made the call all in to put herself in danger.

She would pat it down the rest of the way with Tanaka drawing one card twice. He pulled an ace on the last draw though, making the worst low. She showed up 9-7-6-3-2, plenty good to keep her alive and give her stack a boost to 220,000.

Juanda Pats, Shouldn't Have

John Juanda made a raise from the button, and Masayoshi Tanaka called from the big blind. Each player would draw two cards to start and then check-check the betting.

On the next draw, Tanaka took two again, and again he checked. Juanda traded just one card, and he bet and was called.

Juanda patted the last round while Tanaka still wanted one card. When Juanda bet, Tanaka made one last call, turning over 8-7-6-4-2. Juanda confidently tabled a seven low.

The only problem with his seven was that it was 7-6-5-4-3. "Oh, I have a straight!" he realized. The pot was pushed over to Tanaka, and Juanda sighed and said, "I'm steaming now," with a slight smirk.

Juanda - 220,000
Tanaka - 740,000

Juanda Crippled

Abe Mosseri raised from the small blind, and John Juanda called from the big. Mosseri drew and bet while Juanda drew two and called.

The two men drew the same cards on the second round, but Mosseri checked this time. Juanda made the bet, and he was called. On the last round, Mosseri took one card and fired another bet. Juanda had stood pat, and he put in the call.

Mosseri turned over 8-6-5-4-2, and his eighty-six was better than Juanda's low. That pot knocked Juanda down to 88,000, and it would only get worse.

*****

On the next hand, Juanda raised from the small blind, and Julie Schneider would come along from the big. Each player drew two cards, and they both checked on the first round.

On the second, Juanda took two cards and check-called a bet from Schneider after she swapped one. On the last round, both players drew one card, and Juanda would check-fold to one last bet, leaving himself just 8,000 lonely chips.

John Juanda Eliminated in 4th Place ($44,941)

John Juanda - 4th Place
John Juanda - 4th Place
The action folded around to the blinds, and Abe Mosseri's small blind of 10,000 was already enough to cover Juanda's all in for 8,000 from the big. Drawing for his tournament life, Juanda swapped three-two-two on the drawing rounds. Mosseri took two cards on the first chance, standing pat from then on out.

He would show down 9-8-7-4-2 for a ninety-eight. Juanda had a good start with 8-6-2, but his final draw brought two ugly paint cards to the party. Queens and jacks are not what Juanda was looking for, and he has run out of chips.

John Juanda played a fine tournament for the past three days, and he was no doubt the betting favorite even as his stack got short. Despite his great run, he will fall three spots short of his ultimate goal. As a consolation prize, Juanda will pocket $44,941.
