Fernandez Pats His Jack, Survives

Justin Smith raised from the cutoff seat, and big blind Jacobo Fernandez made the call. He drew two cards while Smith wanted three. After the draw, Fernandez made a bet and was called.

The players drew the same cards on the second draw, and Fernandez bet all in for his last 3,600. Smith didn't seem to realize that his opponent was so short-stacked, and he quickly called to put him to the test.

On the last draw, Fernandez stood his ground while Smith pulled one last card. "Do you have a jack?" he asked. Fernandez nodded and tabled J-8-6-5-3. It was either wishful thinking or a great read by Justin, and he showed T-9-3-2 as he squeezed his last card. It was a king though, and he couldn't improve to the ten low.

Fernandez grabs some much needed chips, doubling up to 18,000 and dropping Smith down to 42,000.

Hedlund's Seventy-Six

Peter Hedlund was heads up with Daniel Negreanu in this pot, and each player took one card. After that, Hedlund checked, Negreanu bet, and and Hedlund called.

Negreanu would stand pat on the second draw while Hedlund asked for one more card. He checked again before sticking in a check-raise, and Negreanu paid the two bets.

Both players would stand pat after that, and Negreanu called one more bet from his opponent. Hedlund tabled 7-6-5-4-2, and his seventy-six was good enough to ship him the pot.

Corpuz' Smooth Eight Is Good

Justin Smith raised from midposition and Abraham Mosseri reraised from the cutoff, Martin Corpuz made the call before Smith made it four bets.

Corpuz drew one, Smith drew one and Mosseri drew three, causing Smith to chuckle.

Corpuz then decided to draw two while Smith and Mosseri both took a single card each. Smith took the lead and fired another bet and both players called again.

On the final draw, Corpuz and Mosseri took a card while Smith stood pat. The hand was checked down and Corpuz {8-Clubs} {5-Diamonds} {4-Clubs} {3-Clubs} {2-Clubs} was good.
