Up and Down for Woodward

Matt Woodward raised to 10,500 from the cutoff, and Michael Martin reraised all in for about 20,000. It folded back to Woodward who called, showing {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades} versus Martin's {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}. The board ran out queen-high, and Woodward's nines held up. Martin is out, and after that one Woodward was up to 80,000.

Soon after, though, Woodward fell back down in a hand against Malte Strothman. Woodward had raised under the gun to 4,500, Strothman reraised to 11,000 from the small blind, and Woodward called. The flop came {6-Spades}{3-Spades}{7-Diamonds}, Strothman continued with a bet, Woodward came over the top all in, and Strothman called with his last chips, showing {3-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} for a set of treys versus Woodward's {8-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}.

The turn was the {6-Diamonds}, giving Strothman the boat and leaving Woodward drawing dead. Strothman is up close to 100,000 now, and Woodward back down to 22,000.

Rai is Hot

Rai Cao has taken over the chip lead early on Day 2. He just now got into a preflop raising war with an opponent in which he came over the top of the opponent's reraise to 43,000, forcing his foe out of the hand.

Cao is up to 445,000.

Miner's Hand Finer

Lee Childs raised to 4,000 from under the gun, and both William Miner (small blind) and Joe Tehan (big blind) called. The flop came {7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}. Miner checked, Tehan bet 10,000, Childs folded, and Miner called.

The turn came the {9-Spades}, and both checked. The river brought the {J-Spades}. Miner bet 13,600, Tehan raised to 47,400, and Miner went into the tank for a while before making the call.

It was a good call: Miner showed {A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} for queens, and Tehan {10-Spades}{7-Spades}. Miner is up over 150,000 now, and Tehan slips to 30,000.

Super Comeback

Shaun Deeb, donning a backwards cap and blue Superman T-Shirt, was the last of the six players to arrive at his table today, finding Mike Caro, Bill Chen, and the others already sitting behind their arranged stacks and having played a few hands.

"So," said Caro as Deeb sat down and began to stack his chips. "What does the 'S' stand for?"

"Shaun," answered Deeb with a grin.

A Pause for Some Applause

We only managed to get a couple of hands in here before play has been paused for the WSOP bracelet ceremony. For the second straight day, the national anthem of Germany is being played as Jorg Piesert is being recognized for winning Event No. 52, the $3,000 Triple Chance No-Limit Hold'em event.

Also being recognized today is David Halpern (U.S.) for winning Event No. 53, the $1,500 Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo 8-Or-Better event.

No ceremony today for David Bach (U.S.), who just a few short hours ago finally won Event No. 49, the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. event. Perhaps they're letting him get some much deserved sleep for now.
