A Numbers Game

Registration is still open for about three hours, and we can already see that Day 1c is fulfilling expectations and showing a big increase over the first two days in terms of numbers. Just under 1,700 players have been given seats so far today, and that number should continue to increase over the course of the next level. There's even a slight chance we might get to last year's Day 1c mark of 1,928. A slight chance.

The Paul Tran Express

Paul Tran is a character to say the least. he's been involved in tons of hands at his table, which is also where Maya Gellar is also seated, and running his mouth the entire time.

From early position, Tran raised to 225 and a player in middle position reraised to 825. Tran made the call saying, "I have tens, you better hope a ten doesn't hit." He then checked in the dark as the flop came down {10-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} {4-Hearts}.

"I'll be nice to you on this hand." Tran continued as his opponent checked behind. Before the turn was dealt, Tran fired 500 in the dark. The dealer then dealt the {10-Clubs} on the turn.

"Uh oh, bad beat! Bad beat jackpot!" yelled Tran. His opponent made the call.

The river brought the {4-Diamonds} and Tran fired 500 again. His opponent called and Tran showed {4-Clubs} {3-Hearts} for a full house to scoop the pot.

On the next hand, Tran raised to 225 again, with both the button and big blind making the call. The flop came down {A-Diamonds} {J-Spades} {7-Clubs}, but not before Tran had fired 100 in the dark, even though the big blind was to act before him. The big blind checked, Tran's bet stood, and then the button raised to 200. The big blind folded and Tran made the call.

The turn brought the {9-Diamonds} and Tran checked. The button fired 600 and Tran called.

Tran then fired 100 after the river fell the {8-Clubs} and his opponent called. Tran tabled a rivered two pair, {8-Hearts} {7-Hearts}, and scooped in the pot.

Seth Puts Opponent on Ice

Andy "BKiCe" Seth had chipped his way up to 48,000 here in the early going, and he'd find himself tangled up in a big pot just moments ago.

On a flop of {5-Hearts} {J-Hearts} {Q-Spades}, Seth and his opponent engaged in a betting and raising war, and all of the chips finally went into the middle. Seth tabled {Q-Hearts} {9-Hearts} for top pair and the heart draw, looking to catch up to his opponent's {A-Clubs} {A-Hearts}. The {6-Spades} on the turn was an airball, but the river brought the {4-Hearts} and the flush for Seth. He's earned his first knockout of the day, and that's good enough to chip him up to 65,000.

Phillips Thrills His Fans

We caught two hands with Dennis Phillips from the blinds.

In the first, the cutoff raised to 300 and the button called. Phillips raised to 1,200 from the big blind, the cutoff folded and the button called.

Phillips led for 1,800 on a flop of {2-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} and forced the fold.

On the next hand, Phillips limped from the small blind and four players saw a flop of {10-Spades}{4-Spades}{9-Spades}. Action checked around and Phillips led for 600 when the turn brought the {10-Clubs}. He got one call and went heads up to the river, which brought the {A-Hearts}.

Phillips bet 1,300 and got called before turning up {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades} for a full house. "Is that good enough?" he asked. He got his answer when his opponent tossed his hand into the muck.

Can't Stop Yan Chen

Yan Chen opened for 300 from middle position and the cutoff called. The flop came down {K-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} {7-Spades} and Chen led out for 500. The cutoff called and they went to the turn, which fell the {8-Hearts}. Chen fired another 1,100 and the cutoff called. Both players checked the {Q-Diamonds} on the river.

Chen turned up {A-Diamonds} {Q-Spades} and the cutoff mucked. He's already up to 85,500.

Drums on the Amazon

We can hear the sound of drums in the hallway and all of the various media folk are running toward the entrance near the feature table.

Hellmuth approacheth.

Lieu Sends One Home Early

Tally one scalp for Liz Lieu. She raised to 300 from middle position. The next player to act made it 1,100 to go, folding all other players. Lieu put in the third raise to 4,000, then called when her opponent shoved all in for 8,000 total.

Lieu: {Q-Hearts} {Q-Clubs}
Opponent: {10-Diamonds} {10-Spades}

There was a bit of a sweat for Lieu when the board develoepd {J-Spades} {4-Spades} {K-Clubs} {3-Spades}. She stood up and shouted "RED!". The river was an asked-for red card, the {3-Diamonds}. After an early hit, Lieu is back up to 32,000.

Four Aces

Joe Bartholdi and Bill Chen got together in a preflop raising war, and both men got their entire stacks into the middle. This early on, it would probably take aces for these two guys to get it in before the flop, and that was exactly the case. Chen tabled the two red aces, and Bartholdi the two black ones.

The board ran out clean with no flushes, the the pot goes to both men.

Controversy on Orange 83

We're not sure what started the tiff on Orange 83 between David Singer and a dealer named Tabatha. It seems to have some history from before today. Whatever it was, Singer was hot under the collar. A floor was summoned to the table, who listend to the dealer complain that Singer had been berating her.

"David, would you come with me?" the floor requested.

"I don't want to come with you," Singer replied.

"If you harass the dealers it will not be put up with. Come with me please."

"Can I play my hand?" Singer asked.

"No, you're getting a penalty."

Singer was irate. "I'm getting a penalty for her saying she misses me like a migraine?"

The floor then got on his radio and requested a second floor to come to the table. "Is it going to be the same issue?" the radio crackled.

"Continuation," replied the floor. Eventually Jack Effel showed up and pulled Singer aside for a five-minute conversation. We're not sure what the result of the conversation was, but Singer is back at the table now without further incident.
