Kirk Morrison is a player who has been rarely spotted during this WSOP, but we just caught Morrison and Kristy Gazes tangling on a flop of . Morrison checked from the small blind to Gazes in late position who fired 2,500. Morrison then min-check-raised to 5,000 and Gazes released.
Morrison claimed he had as he adds to his impressive stack of 87,000 chips.
Preflop action ended with about 5,000 in the middle and two players, including the mustachioed Steve Zolotow playing out of the big blind.
The flop came , Zolotow bet 3,500, and his opponent called. The turn was the , and Zolotow turned his head to the side as if to say "okay, let's see what you're going to do," and tapped the table. His opponent likewise checked.
The river was the and both players checked once more. "Ace," said Zolotow, tabling his . His opponent sat for awhile looking at his cards, then showed them to all -- . "Good hand," he told the two-time WSOP bracelet winner.
Zolotow looks to be right back close to where he started the day with just a tad under 30,000 chips.
With the board reading two players got in their stacks. The first seemed very confident when flipping over his but...Shock! Horror! as the second player flipped for quad jacks to win his opponent's entire stack.
If you have been following our coverage for the past few days, you may remember a piece about a group of six guys from Valdosta, GA. They are here playing in memory of Pruitt Rainey, a U.S. Army Corporal who was killed in an attack of a NATO base in Afghanistan a year ago on July 13th.
Well these guys are showing a lot of heart and with just a few minutes remaining in play today, it looks like all six guys will make day two.
Robert Smith, who is playing today, is currently at 38,000 and is in good shape to survive. The other five gentlemen to look out for on day two are; Frankie Gay (Father of Pruitt Rainey), Bill Sineth, Earl Holmes, Roy Swindle and Allen Kennedy.
Lets hope these guys can keep up the good work and make our fallen hero Pruitt Rainey proud.
Prahlad Friedman opened with a raise to 1,300 from middle position before Scott Freeman moved all in over the top for 11,400 in total. The table folded back to Friedman who made the call.
Friedman:
Freeman:
The board ran out and Friedman takes it with two pair to end the tongue-twister and send Freeman to the rail.
The story is that Matthew Marafioti was awarded a penalty for using the F-Bomb and after coming to the conclusion that he was not in the best state he decided to go home.
Tom Dwan gave the Tournament Director a couple of $100 bills to make sure that Marafioti was 'delivered' home safely after being on the intoxicated side.
Dwan may be feeling bad, but Marafioti will be returning on Wednesday with over 56,000 in chips.
Well, that's almost it for our Day Ones -- spectators have been ejected, the clock has been stopped and our Day 1d-ers will be playing just three more hands.
It's going to be a massive job with the bagging -- this is the largest number of players they've ever finished a WSOP day with. Hope they got some extra bags in!
Vanessa Rousso experienced a slide during the last part of the day, as her stack dwindled down below the 10,000 mark. On the last hand of the day, she lost a few more chips.
Three players, including Rousso, limped to see a flop, and all three checked. The turn was the . Rousso checked, one opponent bet 900, and only Rousso called. The river was the . Rousso checked, her opponent bet 1,800, and she let it go.
