The Demise of Demes

Oh dear, one of our big stacks at the start of today, Brandon Demes, has done nothing but lose pot after pot. After starting the day with 370,000, he's now down to a teeny tiny 42,000.

More Chips for Morgan

Jordan Morgan opened with a raise to 8,000 first into the pot. Next door, Carlos Oliveira reraised to 21,000. When it came back to Morgan, he made the smooth call to see the flop.

It brought {5-Clubs} {Q-Hearts} {A-Spades}. Morgan checked, then called a bet of 25,000 from Oliveira. On the turn, the {5-Diamonds} drew another check from Morgan. Oliveira meticulously stacked out 60,000, counted his bet four or five times, and slid it into the pot. His opponent called, and the last card off the deck was the {10-Spades}. Morgan checked, and this time Oliveira thought it best to check behind.

Jordan Morgan showed up {K-Hearts} {K-Diamonds}, and Oliveira was left to shake his head and wonder if a third bullet would have worked. He slid his cards into the muck, and the pot goes to Morgan who's moved his way up near 800,000 now.

Killer Queen

Christina Renz opened with a raise to 7,000 from under the gun, then Mads Wissing made it 30,000 from middle position. It folded back to Renz who announced she was all in for 47,000 more. Wissing pondered for a few moments, then made the call.

Renz turned over {A-Hearts}{K-Spades} and Wissing {K-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}. The flop came a dramatic {J-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}, giving Wissing the straight. After his initial excitement, he regrouped: "No queen!" he said. The turn was the {5-Clubs}. "No queen!" Wissing repeated.

Then came the river -- the {Q-Clubs} -- giving Renz the higher straight and renewed life. She's up to 155,000, and Wissing down to 126,000.

Donev Done For

Day 2 Donev
Day 2 Donev
Strolling by Ivo "The Chess Master" Donev's table, we couldn't help but notice that he was down to around 21,000.

"I lose 11 time in a row," he explained, "It took six hours and I didn't win one pot."

A moment later and he open-shoved in mid position. A gentleman called and they flipped their cards; Donev covered his eyes, not wanting to see the result of the coinflip.

Donev: {A-Clubs} {K-Spades}
Caller: {10-Clubs} {10-Hearts}

Board: {8-Spades} {10-Spades} {7-Clubs} {4-Hearts} {5-Clubs}

Thus we lose Mr. Donev.

J.C. Tran Doubles Up

The button opened the pot for a raise and the player in the small blind called. J.C. Tran reraised from the big blind 32,000 more. The button thought for about 90 seconds before grabbing a fist full of orange chips, reraising to 100,000. The small blind got out of the way and J.C. Tran called all in for a total of 88,300.

Tran: {A-Hearts} {Q-Spades}
Button: {K-Diamonds} {J-Clubs}

The board came {A-Clubs} {K-Hearts} {Q-Hearts} {9-Spades} {2-Diamonds} giving Tran the best hand with two pair, aces and queens. He doubled up and is now at close to 200,000.

Peter Eastgate Squared

Regardless of the story the chip stacks are telling, everyone in the room is chasing one man. During the last break, Melissa Castello caught up with defending champion Peter Eastgate to shoot the breeze. Eastgate is working on making his first Day 3 of this Series a successful one; in fact, he hasn't even made a Day 2 until this 57th event. Check out what he had to say about his run for the repeat:
