Tripping Over Trips

Brandon Adams
Brandon Adams
Nick Frangos completed with the {Q-Clubs}, and both Brandon Adams and Freddie Ellis came along with him.

Frangos: (X-X) / {Q-Clubs} {2-Hearts} {J-Clubs} MUCK
Adams: (X-X) / {Q-Spades} {9-Spades} {Q-Diamonds} {5-Hearts} / (X)
Ellis: (X-X) / {4-Hearts} {4-Spades} {7-Spades} {A-Clubs} / (X)

On fourth street, Ellis bet his pair of fours, and both of his opponents called. On fifth street, Adams picked up the lead with a pair of queens and he wouldn't miss the chance to bet them. Ellis matched the 5,000 while Frangos ducked out. Sixth and seventh streets saw Adams bet, and Ellis made the call both times.

Adams tabled {K-Spades} {Q-Hearts} {10-Clubs} for trip queens. It was the winner; Ellis flashed a third four before sending his cards back to the dealer. Adams is up to 75,000.

Hey, Look Who's Not Here

Marco Traniello couldn't get it going today
Marco Traniello couldn't get it going today
Marco Traniello got himself all in for his last 7,000 chips on third street, fighting for his tournament life against Miami John Cernuto. Traniello's board ran out ({J-Clubs} {K-Hearts}) / {7-Clubs} {J-Diamonds} {5-Hearts} {3-Spades} / ({Q-Clubs}) for a naked pair of jacks. Cernuto could beat that the whole way with his buried kings, running out a final board of ({K-Diamonds} {K-Spades}) / {10-Diamonds} {5-Spades} {7-Hearts} {4-Clubs} / ({3-Hearts}). His kings held up, eliminating Marco Traniello and moving himself up to 85,000.

More Chips for Ellis

Freddie Ellis keeps climbing the counts. His latest chips came at the expense of Jan Sorenson, who folded on the river to a raise from Ellis after leading the betting the whole way. Sorenson felt his board of (X-X) / {2-Spades} {A-Clubs} {5-Clubs} {A-Spades} / (X) was no match for Ellis' (X-X) / {6-Hearts} {4-Clubs} {5-Hearts} {7-Clubs} / (X) and folded, preserving just 600 chips. They went into the middle the next hand. Sorenson survived but has only 4,000 chips.

Ellis is up to 118,000.

Richey Goes Back to Back

The Leapfrog, Brett Richey
The Leapfrog, Brett Richey
Brett Richey completed with the {Q-Clubs}, and Jan Sorenson made the call showing the {2-Clubs}.

Richey: (X-X) / {Q-Clubs} {4-Spades} {4-Hearts} {A-Diamonds} / (X)
Sorenson: (X-X) / {2-Clubs} {J-Diamonds} {5-Spades} {Q-Spades} / (X)

Fourth street saw Sorenson call a Richey bet. On fifth street, Richey bet again, but this time, Sorenson put another bet on top, which Richey called. Both players checked sixth street. Looking confident now, Richey fired a bet on seventh street, and Sorenson called. Richey laid out {A-Spades} {7-Spades} {9-Hearts} for aces up, and it was the winner as his opponent mucked his down cards.

-----

On the very next hand, the two men went at it again. Richey completed once more, this time holding the {K-Clubs}, and Sorenson made the call with a deuce again.

Richey: (X-X) / {K-Clubs} {J-Spades} {10-Clubs} {J-Hearts} / (X)
Sorenson: (X-X) / {2-Hearts} {8-Hearts} {9-Diamonds} {4-Hearts} / (X)

Richey bet on fourth, fifth and sixth streets, with Sorenson calling all the way. Both players checked seventh street this time. Richey exposed his down cards first, revealing {A-Diamonds} {K-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds}, which Sorenson couldn't match. With his split kings improving the whole way, Richey's Broadway straight was good enough to take down the second of back-to-back pots, leapfrogging him up near the very top with 142,000.

Limits Getting Big...

With limits now at 2,000 and 4,000, those days when having 30,000 chips seemed quite cozy are a distant memory. Tim Phan just doubled up with two pair, aces and sevens, to reach 48,000 in chips. That's four bets short of the 64,000-chip average but at least gives Phan some room to work.

Buried Kings Bring it In

Hasan Habib
Hasan Habib
Hasan Habib was the bring-in with the {2-Spades}. Three seats over, Randall Skaggs completed, and Michael Sigel put in a raise down the line. When it came back to Habib, he bumped it up to 6,000. Skaggs ducked out, but Sigel came along.

Habib: (X-X) / {2-Spades} {5-Hearts} {8-Spades} {8-Diamonds} / (X)
Sigel: (X-X) / {4-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} {5-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds} / (X)

On fourth, fifth, and sixth streets, Sigel was check-calling bets from Habib. Seventh street went check-check. Habib opened up {K-Diamonds} {K-Clubs} {J-Hearts}, good for kings up. Sigel nodded, exposing the {7-Spades} {7-Diamonds} that he had buried to start the hand. "I picked up a straight draw too. Just couldn't get away, you know?"

Chiu Gets the Best of Judah

David Chiu got things started on third street with buried kings, {K-Spades} {K-Hearts} / {9-Hearts}. His customer was Mel Judah, who had a nine of his own. Judah took over the betting all the way until sixth street, when he slowed down and checked. At that point, Chiu's board had developed {3-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds} and he bet. Judah called with {7-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds}, then check-called again on the river. Chiu rolled over a river card of {J-Spades} to go along with his buried kings for two pair, kings and jacks. He's up to 52,000.
