Who will win the gold bracelet?
Who will win the gold bracelet?
Welcome, poker fans, to the first $10,000 "World Championship" event of the 2009 World Series of Poker. Today the very best players seven-card stud players in the world will enter the Amazon Room, pull up a chair at an eight-handed table, and try to win the title of Seven-Card Stud World Champion.

Last year 158 players entered this tournament. It was a relative unknown, Eric Brooks, who took down the tournament and the $415,856 and gold bracelet that went along with it.

This year the official 2009 World Series of Poker Staff Resource Guide (a 232-page tome we wouldn't force anyone to read) is predicting a field of 166, an increase of eight players over last year. We'll see how accurate that prediction is soon enough.

Play should be underway at 5pm. PokerNews, the official live-update provider of the 2009 WSOP, will be there all the way from the first bring-in bet to the final elimination. Stick around! A world champion is in the making.
