Adios Awada

Joe Awada's tournament is over. He moved all in for 38,000 over the top of an open-raise to 6,100 by Allan Brown. Brown snap-called with {A-Hearts} {A-Clubs}; Awada had to grimace as he turned over {10-Diamonds} {9-Spades}. There was no help for him anywhere on a board of {2-Diamonds} {k-Spades} {6-Clubs} {5-Clubs} {5-Diamonds}. Awada's out; Brown is up to 120,000.

Jeremiah Smith Eliminated

A disastrous hour for Jeremiah Smith has ended with his elimination. He opened from under the gun for 6,200. Action folded to Jason Melnick on the button, who re-raised to 21,600. Smith shipped in his whole stack with {6-Diamonds} {6-Hearts} and was snap-called by Melnick's {K-Hearts} {K-Clubs}. No help for either player on the board; a disgusted Smith left the tournament area without even receiving his payout slip.

Mike Batell Eliminated

David Baker is running good! He was in the small blind and called the shove of Mike Batell for 38,900. Batell showed down {Q-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds} against Baker's {J-Diamonds} {J-Spades}, but Baker spiked the {J-Clubs} on the river to make a set of jacks and win the hand. He's now up to 330,000 while Batell can retire to the rail and tell his bad-beat story.

Too Young To Continue

The turn had been dealt giving us a {5-Diamonds} {K-Clubs} {6-Diamonds} {9-Hearts} board. Justin Young and Allan Brown were the two players involved and Brown only had a few thousand chips separating them. A series of bets and raises had them both all in.

Brown tabled {A-Hearts} {A-Clubs} to Young's {K-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts}. The river fell {7-Clubs} to eliminate Young and double Brown up to 220,000.

Steady and Slow

Looks like full bellies have contributed to a slowdown in play. We haven't broken a table yet after dinner despite playing for more than thirty minutes.

Now, as a general rule, eliminations should continue at a steady pace from here to the final table (although collapsing tables causes fewer eliminations per level the closer we get to the final table). But sometimes they get "stuck" -- like shifting tectonic plates under the ground get stuck, eventually resulting in an earthquake. It looks like we're in a "stuck" period right now. We'll see what it takes to shake some of these players loose.

Fuller Can't Fill

Thomas Fuller needed to fill a straight. He was all in on a board of {10-Hearts} {Q-Clubs} {Q-Hearts} and called by Joe Parille, who turned over {J-Spades} {10-Spades} for two pair. Fuller was drawing at a straight, {J-Hearts} {9-Clubs}, and missed two times: on the turn ({5-Clubs}) and on the river ({A-Hearts}). As a result he's out of the tournament and Parille is up to 128,000.

Frenchman's Timing Off

C'est La Vie
C'est La Vie
Rob Brown raised from the cut off before Ludovic Lacay shoved from the button for a little bit less than 60,000. Nice to get yourself back in it generally. That is unless you have {10-Spades} {5-Spades} in your hand and your opponent is sitting there with {Q-Hearts} {Q-Spades}.

Ludovic had to got through the torture of watching the board come {A-Spades} {4-Clubs} {2-Diamonds} {9-Clubs} {6-Hearts} before he left to collect his winnings.
