McClelland Still Holding On

Jack McClelland was in the big blind for 800 and was facing a raise to 2,000. McClelland made the call and the two checked all streets of the {4-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{A-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} board.

McClelland turned over {J-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for a rivered pair of tens, which was good enough to take down the small pot. McClelland has a little over 10,000 in chips as we approach the money.

Araujo Triples Up

Marcelo Araujo got his short stack all in preflop against two opponents. Both active players checked all streets as the board ran out {8-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}.

Araujo turned over {A-Spades}{K-Clubs} for top two pair and the other players mucked. Araujo tripled up in the hand and is back up to over 10,000.

McAvoy Eying a Return to the Final Table

John McAvoy final tabled last year's Casino Employees Event, finishing 7th and earning $10,545 for his efforts. This year he hopes to return to that same final table.

McAvoy recently eliminated a player after calling an open shove to 6,000 with {A-Spades}{J-Diamonds} from middle position. His opponent tabled {7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} and the {J-Clubs}{10-Spades}{5-Spades} flop pushed McAvoy into the lead.

Neither the {10-Hearts} on the turn nor the {4-Clubs} on the river changed anything and McAvoy was awarded the pot sending his opponent to the rail and increasing his stack to 17,000 chips.

Washington Reaches Six-Figures

A player in early position open shoved for 5,200 and the action folded to Kent Washington in the big blind who snap-called with {A-Clubs}{A-Spades}. His opponent tabled {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}.

The {Q-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{2-Clubs} flop brought a gut-shot straight draw, but the turn ({6-Hearts}) and river ({5-Hearts}) both blanked.

After the knockout Washington’s stack is over six-figures with 106,000 chips.

Mixed Action at Table Five as Bubble Nears

Over at Table 5, a player short on chips committed his last 3,600 to the pot. Action folded to Christopher Perez in the big blind who hesitant called with his “favorite hand,” {8-Spades}{10-Diamonds}.

His opponent was ahead with {K-Hearts}{K-Clubs}, but Perez picked up a straight draw on the {6-Hearts}{J-Spades}{7-Clubs} flop. The {4-Clubs} gave him a few more outs, but it was the {9-Spades} on the river that sent his opponent home. “It’s my favorite hand,” said Perez, which sent a laugh among the players at the table.

A few hands later, there was about 8,000 in the pot when Orly Rayez bet 2,500 into Paul Katte on a {K-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{8-Spades}{3-Hearts} board. Katte went into the tank as the rest of the table asked how many more people until the money. “Seven,” was the floor’s response as Katte stared down Rayez. After a couple of minutes Katte folded. Rayez showed {Q-}{8-} for a pairs of eights and Katte rose from the table in disgust, indicating he folded the best hand. Katte was eliminated a few hands later, out of the money.

Meanwhile, Marcelo Araujo’s attempt at a comeback was cut short and he was eliminated from Table 4.

Action seems to be tightening as the money bubble nears.
