Eliminations are occurring at a rapid pace, and Harsukhpaul Sangha is our most recent victim.
Sangha was all in for his remaining 520,000 chips preflop and Nicholas "ISpewChips" Phillips had him at risk:
Showdown
Sangha:
Phillips:
The flop fell giving Sangha a gut-shot straight draw. The turn was a meaningless and the river paired both players but Phillips held the higher kicker.
Sangha is out in 12th place and Phillips is up to 1,925,000 chips.
After a series of preflop raises, David Randall and Marvin Rettenmaier took a flop of . Rettenmaier led out for a bet and Randall called.
The turn was the and this time Rettenmaier checked to Randall who bet. Rettenmaier called, creating a pot of about 600,000 by this point.
The river was the and Randall led big; 340,000 chips. Rettenmaier tanked for a very long time, staring at Randall. Finally he leaned back, sighed and called.
"Quads," Randall announced.
Rettenmaier mucked, slipping to 580,000 chips. Randall now sits with 1,760,000 chips.
Austin McCormick limped from under the gun and Michael Smith raised all in to 390,000. Nicholas "ISpewChips" Phillips called from the small blind and McCormick folded.
Showdown
Smith:
Phillips:
The flop pushed Smith in the lead, but Phillips still had outs.
The on the turn eliminated back-door outs, and Phillips couldn't find a queen or jack on the river, rather it was the . Smith doubled to 815,000 chips and Phillips dropped to 910,000.
Simon Watt had Venkatesh Gupta all in for his tournament life before the flop. Watt held against Gupta's and flopped a set of fives. Gupta could not improve and was eliminated in 11th place earning $35,327.
We picked up the action on the turn for this hand. When we walked up, the board showed , and Austin McCormick and Nicholas Phillips had built a pot of about 400,000.
We walked up to the table to see the dealer drop the on fourth street, and McCormick knocked the table. Phillips put out a bet of 275,000, leaving just about 400,000 behind. After just a moment of tank time, McCormick announced an all in, and Phillips reluctantly called.
Showdown
McCormick:
Phillips:
Phillips was visibly disappointed when he saw that he'd been flushed on the turn, but he still had outs to get there with a full house.
The river was no help at all, however, and Phillips has run out of chips. After a great run with a lot of spectator support urging him on, he's made it all the way to 10th place. It was a fine performance, outlasting more than 2,500 runners, but it seems to be little consolation to Phillips at the moment. He'll have to settle for a $35,327 payday and a grumpy evening at home.
"Does anyone in poker have any money left if durrrr wins that tournament? I know I don't!" Mike Matusow screamed as he stood up from his $10k Stud 8 table to get a better look at the Lakers game. "And I'll admit it!"
In an interview with our own Gloria Balding earlier in the week, Dwan was not specific on the amount wagered, but told us that should he ship his "bracelet bet," it would be his largest single-day win ever.
"Hey, did anyone like lay 3-1 on how many times durrr would get it in as a 4-1 dog? The over won on that one!" Matusow added.
