Matros Takes One Off Potter

Matthew Matros raised to 30,000 preflop, Jason Potter raised to 45,000 from the blind and Matros called. Potter bet the {K-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{K-Spades} flop and Matros called, only for both players to check the {4-Diamonds} turn. On the {8-Spades} river, however, Matros was less hospitable, leading for 30,000.

"Man, have you got the A-8?" probed a perplexed Potter to little response. In the end, he released the hand, and Mattros picked up the pot. As a result, Potter has dropped to 330,000.

Bullets Shoot Abghari Down

Matthew Matros, who seems to be involved in many of the major pots, reached a {3-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{5-Clubs} flop in position with Ahmad Abghari where both players went loco, Matros putting in a final raise of 60,000.

The {3-Spades} turn was an interesting card, and one that elicted a check from Abghari. Matros led and Abghari called.

The {5-Spades} river was yet another potentially action killing/halting card which led to Abghari turning aggressor with a bet of 30,000. However, when Matros immediately made it 60,000, Abghari picked up his chips with a firm shake of the head before throwing them in and being shown {A-Hearts}{A-Spades}.

Abghari inevitably mucked his hand and looked down dejectedly at his now 67,000 stack. Matros, meanwhile, is now up to 550,000 and second in chips to Terrence Chan.

Abghari Doubles Through

Down to just 67,000, Abghari raised it up from the button, only to find resistance in neighbour Roberto Truijers who announced raise from the small blind. Abghari's chips quickly found their way into the middle, Truijers matching the 67,000 to bring us to a showdown.

Surprisingly, Ahmad was in splendid shape, his {A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts} comfortably ahead of Truijer's {K-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}. The {7-Hearts}{7-Spades}{J-Hearts} flop provided no help, and although the {Q-Spades} was close, it was no cigar as the river came the {3-Spades} to double Abghari through.

Abghari now back up the 164,000, whilst the Dutchmen dips back down to around 80,000.

Truijers Doubles Through Chan, Still a Microstack

Roberto Truijers raised from the button and Terrence Chan reraised from the small blind. Georgios Kapalas in the big blind thought about it for a while but folded; Truijers called all in for a little less than the reraise and they were on their backs.

Truijers: {a-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}
Chan: {q-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}

Board: an extremely decisive {a-Spades}{4-Hearts}{10-Spades}{q-Hearts}{10-Clubs}

Truijers doubled to a still woefully short 85,000 or so - or that's what he had following the color up that took place immediately after.

Battle of the Shorties

Like if WIllow took on Mini-Me, we've encountered a battle of the shorties here at the final table as Ahmad Abghari clashes with fellow short-stacker Roberto Truijers. It was Truijers who threw the first punch, raising it up from under the gun. Abghari called in the big blind.

On the {A-Clubs}{10-Spades}{2-Clubs} flop, Truijers continuation bet, but ran into resistance from Abghari who check-raised to 40,000. Despite only have 60,000 behind, Truijers opted for the fold and lives to fight another day.

Roberto Truijers Eliminated in 8th Place ($18,385)

Roberto Truijers - 8th place
Roberto Truijers - 8th place

Jameson Painter raised in the cutoff and Ahmad Abghari called in the small blind. Over to Roberto Truijers in the big blind, who reaised all in. Both players called.

Abghari and Painter quickly checked down the {4-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{10-Spades}{k-Spades}{3-Clubs} board and the cards were turned over.

Truijers: {a-Spades}{q-Spades} for the pair of kings on the board with an ace
Abghari: {6-Spades}{6-Diamonds} for two pair
Painter: mucked

Either Truijers or Abghari banged the table, we're not sure which. But either way, Truijers was rail-bound, and eight became seven.

By the by Abghari's stack was at 325,000 after that.
