Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mericer has broken that 5,000 barrier after outdrawing an opponent. It was his foe who kick-started the action, raising it up to 150 from early position. The player one seat along called, but Mericer was less hospitable, making it 775 from the hijack.

The initial aggressor counted out his chips, restacked them, before sliding 2,450 across the felt with only a smidgen of confidence. Once the sandwiched player made the fold, Mercier called and showed {A-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{J-Spades}{Q-Hearts}. His opponent tabled {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}. "I have Badugi," added Mercier with a rye smile.

Although behind, the board was kind to the former EPT winner, the dealer popping a {6-Spades}{9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{10-Spades}{A-Hearts} onto the felt to deliver Mericer a straight at the very death.
