Eskimo Left Out in the Cold

Paul Eskimo Clark
Paul Eskimo Clark

A big pot escalating on a near table (15,000 already in the middle) lured me over like a cobra to a champion snake charmer, but when I arrived, we were already at a showdown. Nevertheless, it was Ronnie Brown (now on 30,000) who scooped with the diamond flush, whilst 'Eskimo' Paul Clark was left with 6,000.

Jan Sjavic: {X}{X}{X}/{5-Clubs}{2-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} - folded sixth street
Clark: {3-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{3-Clubs}/{7-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}
Brown: {7-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{X}/{6-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}

Moments later, Eskimo's final 6,000 followed the same path, trip tens no good against Jan Sjavic's flush. Eskimo threw his cards down firmly before leaving, shaking his head and briefly glancing over his shoulder to mumble a few disgruntled words to himself as he left. As he trundled into the hallway, I expect he continued to grumble, and would still be doing so back home in his igloo.

A Buoy Named Su

Stephen Su: {4-Spades}{3-Spades}{8-Spades}{7-Spades}{2-Spades}{10-Spades}{2-Hearts} in indeterminate order
Constantine Zdanowich: {5-Diamonds}{6-Spades}[ / {7-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{9-Clubs} / (X)
Fred Koubi: {7-Hearts}{k-Clubs} / {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{3-Hearts} / {6-Diamonds}

Constantine Zdanowich and Fred Koubi were both all in on fourth street; Stephen Su called them both.

By the time all the cards were dealt out it was apparent that no-one could beat either Su's flush or his eight low, so Su scooped the pot and the other two players headed for the rail.

Su is at around 21,000.

Playing Hodgeball

Marc Hodge: {a-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{7-Spades}{3-Clubs}{q-Hearts}
Larry Wright: {2-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{a-Spades}{9-Spades}{9-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{10-Spades} - neither of those hands in any particular order

Marc Hodge was all in by fourth or fifth street; the rest of the cards were dealt and they chopped it up, Hodge taking the low and Wright taking the high. Hodge, who was chip leader for much of yesterday, remained hovering on a 5,000 short stack.

"This is a stupid game sometimes," he chuckled in explanation for what went wrong.

Dwan Doubles

Tom Dwan was all in on fourth street against James Richburg, Their respective boards read the following:

Richburg: {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds}/{10-Hearts}{9-Hearts}
Dwan: {4-Hearts}{3-Hearts}/{7-Hearts}{5-Hearts}

Hard for Dwan to miss out on at least half of the pot with that starting hand. He hit the {2-Diamonds} on fifth street to make a low and the {6-Clubs} on seventh street to make a straight, good enough to scoop and double to about 13,000. Richburg slipped to 21,000.

Maxed Out

Fresh of their 40 winks, players have arrived with a renewed vigor, and seem hungry for action as we witness endless big pots. One of those was a three-handed affair which saw the early demise of Max Stern.

Stern: {K-Diamonds}{X}{J-Diamonds}/{K-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}
Richard Tuttle: {3-Hearts}{8-Spades}{6-Hearts}/{A-Hearts}{4-Spades}{9-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}
Andrey Zaichenko: {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}{7-Spades}/{4-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{5-Hearts}

Fireworks exploded on fourth street, Tuttle leading, Zaichenko raising, and Stern three-betting to 1,800. Both players called.

On fifth, Tuttle checked, Zaichenko bet and Stern called all in for 1,100. Sixth and seventh both saw Tuttle check-call single bets before being the bad news: both his high and low were pipped by Zaichenko's pocket aces and low to the seven.

As a result, Tuttle is down to just 200 (and exited shortly after), whilst Zaichenko now boasts in excess of 20,000.

McLinden Crippled, Quadrupled, Doubled, Bust

Andrew McLinden: (XXX) / {k-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}
Mark Janeczek: (XXX) / 8c]{5-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}

"I got three kings," ventured Andrew McLinden once all the chips had gone in on seventh street.

"I got a straight," Mark Janeczek went one better.

"Did you have it on fifth?" McLinden sighed.

"Actually yes."

It turned out that McLinden was owed some change though - the princely sum of 100 chips. It all went in the next hand as his ante, and he managed to quadruple up to 400 with a straight. A few hands later and he more than doubled up to 1,000 with a pair of fives.

It couldn't last, though - no sooner than we had returned to our laptops than we spied Mr. McLinden getting up and heading for the door. Conclusion: busto.
