Non-Fatal Hit for Aguiar

Jonathan Aguiar
Jonathan Aguiar

Jon "FatalError" Aguiar was looking rather less cheery than previously after doubling up another player at his table, leaving himself with 20,000 or so. We only caught the very end of the hand, but the cards looked like so:

Aguiar: {j-}{j-}
All-in gentleman: {a-}{q-}

Board: {q-}{3-}{9-}{q-}{7-}

Gilbert Grinding

Zak Gilbert, who finalled a stud hi/lo bracelet event last year, has been grinding along nicely and is now up to 15,000.

Most recently he was spotted raising preflop and getting called by the gentleman in the big blind. Following the {6-Spades}{3-Clubs}{6-Clubs} flop and a check form the big blind, Gilbert took the pot with a simple continuation bet.

The End for Evdakov

Looks like Nikolay Evdakov will be now able to devote his full concentration to Event No. 2, the $50K Player's Championship. Just as well, probably, as he'd need to final table this event just to make up for the buy-in over there.

Down to his last 3,600, Evdakov pushed all in with {A-Spades} {10-Diamonds}, but unfortunately ran into an opponent holding {A-Clubs} {A-Diamonds}. The board went {8-Clubs} {5-Spades} {7-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds} {8-Hearts}, and Evkdakov took off down the hall to take his seat back over at the Amazon.

Looking Back, Looking Ahead

Two hours to go. So says the plan, anyhow. Plans are always talking like that.

There are 332 players left from those who began Day 1b. That last hour went about like the previous one, with 108 players being eliminated. All remain mindful of the fact that at 165 we'll reach the money -- and that cannot be. Not today.

So says the plan.

Break Time #Last

Our last official 20 minute break is upon us, although we suspect there'll be another unofficial break after level 9 while they color up the 25-denomination chips.

By Far & Dunaway the Chip Leader

The following tale of woe was related to us by the newly-busted Frank Baris.

With the flop reading {5-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}, a brief raising war between Baris and Braxton Dunaway resulted in Baris finding himself all in for his whole 25,000 stack and covered by Dunaway.

The hands:

Baris: {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} for an overpair
Dunaway: {2-Spades}{5-Hearts} for trips

The turn and river came down the {a-Hearts} and {4-Hearts} respectively, spelling an early bedtime for the luckless Baris. Dunaway, on the other hand, lurched into the lead on 70,000 - although since then he seems to have dropped a few chips and is currently sitting on a still impressive 50,000.

UnLuckyChewy

Andrew "LuckyChewy" Lichtenberger was mid-massage and short-stacked when he found himself all in before the flop with {8-Spades} {8-Diamonds} against an opponent's {A-Spades} {Q-Clubs}.

The flop came {10-Spades} {K-Clubs} {Q-Hearts}, and Lichtenberger was in need of help. But the turn and river brought a couple of sixes -- {6-Diamonds} {6-Clubs} -- and Lichtenberger was eliminated.

He stood up and thanked the masseuse, complimenting her for the massage but noting with a smile it was unlucky in the end.

Aguiar Gets Aggro

Jon Aguiar had already enjoyed a little extra something in his stack after calling a short-stacked all-in push with the mighty {q-}{7-}. The board ran out {7-}{6-}{10-}{7-}{3-} and the all-in player couldn't beat it. Must be nice.

But that little pot was nothing compared to the monster that followed shortly after.

With around 12,000 in the pot by the {a-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{10-Spades} flop, the gent in the small blind position bet out and then called the shove from Aguiar. On their backs.

Mr. Small Blind: {a-Spades}{j-Diamonds} for a pair of aces
Aguiar: {a-}{2-} for two pair

Turn: {a-Clubs}

River: {k-Clubs}

With that, Aguiar moved on up to the lofty environs of 35,000.
