Leary Gets Two-Thirds of Massive Action Pot

Omaha 8/b

While everyone sweats the end of the game, we've had a massive pot at Jon Turner's table. Turner limped in pre-flop before the cutoff raised. Dustin Leary, one of the current chip leaders, then re-raised from the small blind and was called by the big blind, Turner, and the cutoff player.

That wasn't the end of the action. On a flop of {j-Hearts} {5-Clubs} {8-Hearts}, Leary led out. He was raised by the big blind and re-raised by Turner. The last player called before Leary put in the third raise. Everyone called.

Leary bet the {6-Hearts} turn. Again everyone called. It was the same action on the {9-Diamonds} river. At showdown, Leary showed the nut-nut, {a-Hearts} {2-Diamonds} {5-Hearts} {4-Clubs}. The big blind mucked. Turner showed {a-Diamonds} {2-Clubs} {8-Diamonds} {8-Clubs}, the nut low and a set of eights. The cutoff player had only the nut low and pair of fives, {a-Clubs} {2-Spades} {5-Spades} {q-Diamonds}.

Once the pots were split, Turner got a sixth, the cutoff player got a sixth, and Leary got two-thirds. He's busy stacking chips so it may be a few minutes before we have a fresh count.

The Real Excitement

Game 7 of the NBA Championship between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics is nearing its conclusion. Every big shot brings out a roar from the entire Amazon Room. It's fair to say that there are far more people watching the game right now then are paying attention to poker -- and that includes most of the players in Event 31. Maria Ho is decked out and in some Lakers gear and seems to be hardly paying attention to anything at her table while she sweats the end of the game.

It's anybody's guess how much money is represented by sports bets on this game -- in this room -- right now.

Mizrachi Gets Half

Omaha 8/b

We came to Robert Mizrachi's table in time for a three-way flop of {8-Spades} {j-Hearts} {k-Diamonds}. Mizrachi was up against Guillermo Abdel, in the blinds, and button player Thomas Hunt. Action checked to Hunt, whose bet was called by Abdel and Mizrachi in turn.

All players checked the {5-Diamonds} turn. At the {4-Clubs} river, Abdel checked again. Mizrachi's bet folded Hunt, but Abdel called. Abdel got the low half with {a-} {2-}; Mizrachi got the high half after tabling {2-Hearts} {3-Hearts} {10-Diamonds} {10-Clubs}, a pair of tens.

Mizrachi has roughly 55,000 chips.

Lind Outkicked By Josephy

Hold'em

Cliff Josephy raised in middle position and was called by George Lind in the big blind. the flop came down {8-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{k-Clubs} and Lind check-called a bet from Josephy.

Both players checked the {q-Hearts} on the turn and the {2-Spades} on the rvier. When it was time to show some cards, Lind said, "I got an ace." It turned out Josephy did as well, and his {a-}{10-} was just one step better than Lind's {a-}{9-}.

Mercier Wins Monster Pot

Razz

Jason Mercier: 4-6-7 /2- A-K-K
David Mitchell: 2-5-4 / A-A-9-A
Ming Lee: (XXX) / 5-7-J-J

David MItchell completed on third street with both Ming and Mercier calling. On fourth street Mercier opened with a bet and both opponents agreed to come along.

Fifth street brought a load of action when Ming bet, Mitchell raised and Mercier three-bet. Once again, both Ming and Mitchell called.

Betting was a bit more subdued on sixth street. Ming led out with both his opponents calling.

Ming bet the river, Mitchell called, but Mercier raised. Mitchell called, as did Ming, putting himself all in.

Mercier tabled the best hand and won what has to be one of the biggest pots of the night.

Josephy Sends Terrill to the Rail

Razz

Josephy: 3-5 / 8-10-4-7 / 2
Terrill: 2-7 / 5-6-9-9 / X

Cliff "JohnnyBax" Josephy was the first player into the pot. He completed third street and was called by Ronald Terrill. Terrill had the low board on fourth street and bet it, but couldn't shake Josephy. Josephy called a caught a baby on fifth street. He raised after Terrill bet, which was enough to put Terrill all in. Terrill called.

Josephy's board filled out first, making a 7-5. That was a hand that Terrill couldn't beat with any river card. He was drawing dead and didn't bother to squeeze it out.

Josephy is up to 39,000.

Salzer Comes Out Ahead in Big Pot

Razz

Russ Salzer recently came out on top of a monster hand that saw him take a pile of chips from George Lind while sending Paul Dewald to the rail.

George Lind: (X)-5-3 / 8-A-2-A
Russ Salzer: 4-7-6 / 3-A-2-3
Paul Dewald: (XXX) / 8-6-10-6

Salzer got things started with a raise on third street and was called by both Dewald and Lind. On fourth street Lind led out with a bet and was raised by Salzer. Dewald and Lind both made the call.

Lind bet again on fifth street, Salzer called, as did Dewald, putting himself all in. Lind bet on sixth and seventh streets with Salzer calling both times.

Despite leading the betting all the way through, Lind didn't come out with the best hand and had to concede the pot to Salzer.
