Remember Tom Naygrow from earlier, the dude with the toy nun? Well, the nun was at it once again as Naygrow wound her up and set her loose on the felt. But, on this occasion, it was to be her last journey, as Naygrow was unable to outdraw with , the board coming to send both him, and his contemplative assailant home.
Despite the early disheartening site of seeing the number of players increase by the minute, the screen now appears to have halted on 3,097 with 2,400 remaining, meaning in the space of the opening four levels, we have lost almost 700 players. If we continue at this pace, we'll be done by lunch tomorrow, although I'm not sure it quite works like that...
Chris Moorman started off his last hand of the tournament by raising to 600 from early position. The player in the cutoff re-raised to 1,675 and Moorman tanked for several minutes before announcing he was all in. The cuttoff called without hesitation.
Moorman:
Cutoff:
Moorman was way behind and failed to catch up as the board ran out . The player in the cutoff collected Moorman's 11,000 chips as the young internet sensation made his way to the rail.
We arrived at her table to see Maria Mayrinck getting it all in against a short-stacked player.
Mayrinck:
Opponent:
Mayrink had to improve if she wanted to eliminate her opponent, but fell further behind despite pairing her hand when the flop came . The on the turn and the on the river kept the Brazilian PokerStars pro behind and she is now back to her starting stack of 4,500 chips.
A few big stacks are starting to emerge as we near closer to feeding time, but despite players such as Jason Young (33,000) and Chino Rheem (32,000) wearing smiles wider than the equator, the current chip leader must surely be Alex Outhred. According to our sources (the, hopefully, reliable horse's mouth), Outhred is on a whopping, mouth-watering, meatalicious 67,000 and could have this tournament won by the end of the day.
Shannon Elizabeth won't be making a deep run in today's event. After facing a raise to 400 from a player under the gun, Elizabeth went all in for about 1,950. The initial raiser called and we were off to the flop.
Elizabeth:
Under the Gun:
Elizabeth needed a lot of help (namely a four) to pull ahead, but the board ran dry when it came .
It may come as no surprise that the poker world can be an insular one, something that is apparent at the World Series. When scanning the room it's not uncommon to see many players wearing a certain brand of jeans or t-shirt. The biggest observation we've (or at least I) have made so far is the domination of two types of headphones, those being Beats by Dre and Quiet Comfort by Bose. There are a few iPod stock sets here and there, and Ivey wears Sony, but the two frontrunners are clearly Dre and Bose.
If things ever slow down enough, we might actually do a scientific (counting) survey, because we know you're dying to know.
Brock Parker, Adam Levy and Lee Childs are just a handful of notable names who suffered early exits today. We're cutting through the field today like a chainsaw through butter; 1,140 of an initial 3097 remain.
On a board reading we arrived to see Jimmy Ngoc Tran betting with his opponent raising all in. Ngoc Tran made the call and it looked like it was going to be a chop when the cards were turned up.
Ngoc Tran:
Opponent:
But as you may have guessed, the river was huge for Ngoc Tran, coming down and giving him a better two pair. He's now up to 29,000 while his opponent is bust.
