Welcome to Event #48!

Last year's champ Jerrod Ankenman
Last year's champ Jerrod Ankenman

Welcome to the Day 1 of Event #48, and thanks for joining us for our live coverage of the second eight-game event of the World Series.

Today's event promises to be loaded with many of the biggest names and best players poker has to offer. Mixed events have brought us some of the greatest highlights of the year thus far. From Michael Mizrachi's win in the Player's Championship to Phil Ivey's eighth bracelet in the $3,000 H.O.R.S.E., mixed events have been a consistent source of thrills.

The winner of last year's equivalent to this event was Jerrod Ankenman who took home a cool $241,637 after beating the likes of John Turner and Layne Flack at the final table. We're not sure if Ankenman plans on turning up to defend his title, but we do know there is going to be an impressive list of players who plan to take it from him.

Stick with us through the first eight levels of play this evening. We look forward to bringing you every street, split pot, and scoop on the way to eventually crowning our winner. Play kicks off in under an hour, beginning at 5:00 PM local time. See you there!
