What's in a Minute Anyways?

We're all certain that there are 60 seconds in a minute, but exactly how long that takes to pass was up for debate on the floor a few moments ago.

After Jesse Martin checked a board of {5-Spades}{j-Hearts}{2-Spades}{5-Clubs}{6-Spades}, his opponent went all in, sending Martin deep, deep into the tank. After what seemed like eternity, someone called clock and Martin expressed that he planned on using every second of it.

After 50 seconds, the floor supervisor advised Martin that he had 10 seconds left to make a decision, at which time Martin said there was no chance that he had used up almost his entire time bank. However, there was no arguing with Father Time, and Martin mucked his had.
